XYZprinting to invest $1M in STEAM 3D Education Program

3D printer manufacturer XYZprinting today announced its plans to invest over $1 million into its XYZprinting STEAM 3D Education Program. The company has placed a definitive focus on the area of 3D printing education recently, as its latest announcement follows a bundle offer for schools to receive a free 3D printer with the purchase of STEAM curriculum.

Through the company’s STEAM 3D Education Program, XYZprinting aims to make 3D printing technologies more accessible to classrooms by installing over 300 3D printers in schools across the continental United States.

Schools can apply for the education program from now until September 5, 2019 for the chance to receive the da Vinci Jr. 1.0 3D printer (valued at $199.95) as well as one-year access to an NGSS-based STEAM 3D printing curriculum for teachers. Applicants can expect to hear whether they have been selected within 30 days of applying.

XYZprinting STEAM 3D Education program

Through the program, XYZprinting will deliver the 3D printer and STEAM curriculum to 80 schools within grades K-5, 100 schools within grades 6-8 and 120 schools within grades 9-12. The STEAM curriculum included in the offer enables teachers to seamlessly integrate 3D printing in the classroom through the use of over 40 lesson plans. The curriculum provides step-by-step instructions for teachers to help them teach students how to use 3D printing even if they themselves are not experts.

Within schools, 3D printing is unlocking new learning opportunities in STEAM subjects, not only providing insights into how the technology itself works but also providing a hands-on, tactile way of learning about various things. At Stockbridge High School in Michigan, for instance, the Stockbridge InvenTeam uses over 10 XYZprinting 3D printers for a range of projects.

One of the more recent endeavours, the Ezra Project, is aimed at 3D printing a prosthetic fishing pole adaptor for seven-year-old Ezra, who lost the use of his hands at a young age due to a stroke. Having 3D printing technology at school enabled the team to prototype, test and ultimately produce a customized fishing pole adaptor for Ezra’s prosthetic hand.
