Women in 3D Printing appoints Kristin Mulherin as President

Women in 3D Printing (Wi3DP), the nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women working in the AM industry, has appointed Kristin Mulherin as President. The appointment is part of a new leadership structure that coincides with Wi3DP’s seventh anniversary.

Since its founding by Nora Touré in 2014, Wi3DP has evolved significantly. What started as a humble blog profiling women in AM has transformed into a global organization that not only highlights the role of women in AM but actively pushes for greater equality and diversity in the industry and provides immense support to its members. Today, Wi3DP is made up of a community of over 23,000 people across the AM world (truly, it has chapters in 36 countries across six continents).

Touré commented on the organization’s journey so far: “I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve achieved over the past seven years: growing from a blog to one of the largest communities in our industry. Now is a time when we need to think about the next steps for our organization as our team has grown and our programs have evolved.”

As Mulherin steps into the role of President of Wi3DP, Touré will remain involved in the group’s leadership taking on the title of Chairwomen of the Wi3DP Board of Directors. Mulherin has worked in the AM space for years, having held leadership positions at companies such as HP and Dyndrite. Notably, she also founded AM-Cubed, a 3D printing consulting service. Throughout her career, Mulherin has been involved with Wi3DP, acting as chapter ambassador in Portland, Oregon and sitting on the Board of Directors for over two years. She also leads the organization’s sponsorship opportunities and has been a part of the executive committee for the TIPE 3D Printing conference, the first AM industry event to host all-women panels.

“Kristin, as one of our first ambassadors and a Board Director for 2+ years, has shown tremendous talent and appetite for structuring Wi3DP into a sustainable and scalable organization,” Touré says. “I am looking forward to witnessing the work she’ll be achieving in the President’s capacity.” 

“Nora has created a global organization that has seen explosive growth in recent years,” Mulherin adds. “Along with the rest of the executive team, I look forward to supporting the men and women of this community, increasing our partnerships across both additive and traditional manufacturing, and providing the support to further develop our initiatives, such as the NextGen and DEI programs. I have grown tremendously with this community, both personally and professionally, and I’m honored to be taking over the presidency.”
