At last, in Umea (Sweden), the historic Scharinska building’s doors open again. On the 13th and 14th of December, there will be a number of activities in innovation, as the governmental interactive design and research institute RISE launches its new studio at the Scharinska Villan in partnership with WASP hub.

RISE is celebrating this by inviting students, industry, public sector, researchers and the public to an international event on the theme of innovation in northern Sweden: digitization, bioeconomy and sustainable social construction on the 13th of December.

At the same time, the institution is introducing WASP, which opens a regional 3D hub. Umeå with Scharinska becomes part of an exclusive, international network of sites with large-scale 3D printer technology. Other locations include Ravenna, Venice, Macerata, Madrid, London, Beirut and New York. In support of Music Assistance, RISE Interactive will offer workshops with international experts who will develop various 3D prototypes.

“Within WASP we develop materials, processes and technologies that help to develop a prosperous and sustainable society,” said Massimo Moretti, founder of WASP. The goal is to promote economic prosperity by creating products and services that meet the most basic human needs.

In the morning of Thursday, December 14, the results of Wednesday’s workshops will be presented and international guests, such as Ronald Rael from UC Berkeley, will give inspiring lectures about their work and visions. Ambra Totto, studio manager, RISE Interactive in Umeå, presents the Institute’s attention to social innovations.

The official opening set to take place on the afternoon of December 14th will include the Welcome speech by RISE Vice President and Head of Business Development John Rune Nielsen, VP Strategic Sales, Ellinor Ehrnber, and Head of Internationalization Per Alberius. They will also present RISE goals and role in northern Sweden.

“We are excited to be a catalyst for this event where different actors can meet in a creative and open environment. Together we create the future and it’s just the way we want to serve the region, “says Ambra Trotto, studio director RISE Interactive Umeå.

As a pseudonym, Victor has also had a fascinating made-up life story, living as a digital (and virtual) nomad to cover the global AM industry. He has always worked extra-hard whenever he was needed to create unique content. However, lately, as our editorial team has grown, he is mostly taking care of publishing press releases.
