# VoxelMatters Reviews: back to Creality with K2 and K2 Pro

If someone, in 2016, told you that in 10 years you'd be able to buy two cloud-connected, fully enclosed 3D printers with multi-color capability and a heated magnetic PEI plate (with 8X1 kg spools of high-quality PLA filament for less than €2,000), you'd have probably laughed. At the time, a single market-leading Ultimaker 2+ cost about $2,500, was not enclosed, did not have a heated magnetic bed, was not cloud-connected, and had a smaller print volume than the Creality K2, the smallest of the two printers we received from Creality to test and review.

The main challenge for [Creality](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/creality-3d/) is not just that of making really good machines at a great price. That's easy for a company that's been doing just that for half a decade (a lifetime in 3D printing time). It's that competitors like Bambu Lab and Prusa Research have really scaled up their offerings by focusing on high quality at a competitive price, combined with specific USPs. For example, Bambu Lab has created a powerful software ecosystem that attracts new users, while Prusa leverages strategic partnerships and a strong community of longtime users. So what is Creality's USP? We'll find out in this review, but one key element to start from is the ability to offer a wide range of machines, all using the same slicers and software ecosystems, at a very competitive price. This could be ideal for users, even relatively new ones, looking to implement large-scale 3D printer farm capabilities.

In our review, we looked primarily for ease of use, from setup to print, including remote use capabilities, across different systems. That may be one of the reasons why the very efficient Creality PR team sent us not one but two new printers—the K2 and K2 Pro—both with multimaterial support via [Creality's CFS](https://www.creality3dofficial.eu/products/cfs-multi-colour-add-on-kit-system?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23198776209&gbraid=0AAAAAoRuSC0yCmr6wyczXjCY0a54cd6ia&gclid=CjwKCAiA0eTJBhBaEiwA-Pa-hd4ddQ2g7aV85PW3rcHrPvlhGllQ5dB-bu-FN0jdLj0W_Gs1n6LEHBoCl4UQAvD_BwE) (the Creality Filament System, very similar to Bambu Lab's AMS) and four PLA spools of filament for each.

How long did it take to get printing? About fifteen minutes, and to add a bit of challenge, we conducted the initial setup of the K2 Pro during the party for the inauguration of VoxelMatters' new review lab in Milan, courtesy of our partners at White Label, who provided the location at the Galleria degli Artigiani (Artisan's Gallery) space.

With music and alcohol flowing, unpacking, setting up, and starting the K2 Pro became a little bit harder than normal, but Gabriele Faoro, White Label's Co-founder and Lead Designer, had it printing by the time the DJ cranked up the rhythm to get people dancing.

Another interesting aspect, not to be underestimated today, is that the new Creality systems look really cool. So, both in the lab after the final setup and during the party, they generated interest and curiosity among many participants (some of whom came from more manual crafts and were not fully familiar with 3D printing).

So, if one of them decided to begin their 3D printing journey with a Creality K2 system, what would their experience look like?

Let's take a look.

## Unpacking

Both K2s come in a double cardboard box with accessories and a filament spool, packed neatly in black styrofoam. Each accessory package includes a sample white filament spool (a full-size spool for the K2 Pro and a small one for the K2). Each accessory box includes multiple hex keys, pliers, glue, and metal grease for lubrication. The CFSs come in separate boxes, with extra Teflon tubes.

Setting the machine up is the most fun part. First, you have to remove the black styrofoam that's protecting all moving parts inside the machine, then remove the screws and the 3D printed clips locking all moving parts. I really liked that the full-color LED display needs to be connected to the wiring and then clipped on in the top right-hand corner of the printer's frame.

Setting up the CFS requires some additional work, but it's entirely straightforward and requires almost no instructions. The Teflon tube must be connected to the 4-bay system (which connects to the printer with four screws). This option allows you to connect up to 4 CFSs, for a total of 16 colors, without any manual filament changes.

At this point, you can load the filament into its slot so it will be ready for the extruder when you start the print. If you are using Hyper PLA RFID filaments, the machine automatically recognizes the material. If you are using other materials or non-RFID Creality filaments, you'll need to enter the material's color and type manually on the CFS's touchscreen display, but it is a very simple process.

Now all you have to do is download the Creality Print slicer and start printing.

## The soft(ware) side

The K2 systems are effortless to set up from a hardware standpoint. The initial printing setup is also done entirely automatically. The printer offers advanced features designed for high-quality, hassle-free production. In addition to 16-color multi-material printing, smart auto leveling automatically adjusts the actual print area, ensuring strong first-layer adhesion and reducing print failures.

The K2 Pro offers a pro-level 300 mm build volume, allowing for large prototypes, cosplay props, RC components, or batch-printing multiple models at once. While we have not tested this directly (yet), Creality says that active-chamber heating maintains a consistently high temperature, preventing warping in materials like ABS and PPA-CF. In addition, the dual AI cameras provide real-time monitoring and alert you to issues such as spaghetti failures, detachment, or filament runout.

These features are now almost expected on any desktop system, so the main battleground is once again in the software. A slicer must be intuitive and support remote, cloud-based operations, especially for professional users who use the machine for networked printing services, while integrating more and more creative features that enable new users to explore their creativity and fully exploit the printer's potential.

Creality delivers on slicer support. The Creality Print app immediately recognized both printers via LAN, allowing the user to easily select from all connected systems via a scroll-down menu in the top-left corner of the slicer interface. Once you choose the machine you want to use (we only have two, but I assume you can have several), you can place the 3D model on the plate and select the filament you want to use—out of the ones in your CFS—from the menu in the top right corner. The interface is not as neat as some of its competitors, but it is clear and intuitive enough that you can rapidly familiarize yourself with it.

We also tested the cloud slicing feature, which allows you to print remotely. It worked very well for the online models from the Creality Cloud marketplace—using the online cloud slicer—but not as well when we uploaded an STL file to the local slicer and tried to send it to the printer via the web connection. In the first case, I am truly amazed at how simple and effective the system is. You select a file, click Slice, then click Print. You can track and even see the printing progress online via the app. Interestingly, you can pay for a premium subscription to accelerate the cloud slicing operations, which makes sense if you use this system a lot.

In the latter case, when we tried to print from an STL file in the local slicer, the system appeared to complete the slicing correctly and upload the file to the printer, but then it got stuck. I'm not sure whether remote printing from the local slicer is supported (or will be in the future), but it didn't work for us. That's totally fine, but perhaps the system should be clearer about what it supports and what it doesn't.

## A sustainable ecosystem for tomorrow

Although we have only used the printer for a handful of trials so far, we have experienced no issues, even with larger prints. Layer adhesion is excellent, and print quality is high. Of course, we have only used PLA so far, so we don't have firsthand information on the harder-to-print materials.

While not an issue in attracting professional users, the fact that we did not feel the need to use the printer intensively could be viewed as a challenge for attracting new consumer users. The K2 and its entire [Flowprint 3D model ecosystem](https://www.crealitycloud.com/flowprint/) are excellent in terms of infrastructure but limited in the number of printable models and AI apps for creating new products, especially compared to its competitors' systems. Although we should point out that Flowprint is still in beta testing, we found almost no multi-color models to try out; overall, the collection was very large in terms of 3D model quantity but not as high in terms of quality. Many of the images are AI-generated, which creates a bit of confusion.

The offer is currently somewhat limited, but the system is still in beta.

In addition, while Creality was among the first to embrace AI for printable models, the AI apps for model creation are currently limited to three. These include the Cube-Me tool that lets you create a 3D model of yourself or your friends, and it is a fun tool that can certainly help drive use, but overall, the selection seems limited for the system's potential.

The conclusion we can derive from this is that Creality has just laid down the foundation to build on this ecosystem and that its current focus is squarely on more experienced users who need multiple, affordable, high-quality systems to deliver printing production services via 3D printer farm facilities. While both Bambu Lab and Prusa also focus on this growing area of 3D printing, Creality presents some advantages, especially in terms of affordability.

Furthermore, with its corporate strength, Creality is best positioned to challenge Bambu Lab and Prusa Research for market dominance. One of the company's main assets is that the K2 printers, while very close to the state of the art currently available in desktop material extrusion, are only one part of Creality's overall offer.

The company is the only major player in the global 3D creative industry to provide products and services across consumer 3D printing, consumer 3D scanning, and consumer laser engraving. Recently, it launched Nexbie, an e-commerce platform dedicated to 3D creative items targeting overseas (i.e. Western) users. Creality closed FY 2024 with revenue equivalent to $324 million, of which 60% came from 3D printer sales. In Q1 2025 (close last March 31st), it grew by a very impressive 28.5%, reflecting a flourishing business despite increasing competition. The 3D printing market remains extremely volatile, but the K2 series is a solid contender and a fantastic buy for the price.
