# VoxelMatters review: Mintion V1 can save you a headache from printing ABS, ASA

I have a reliable personal test for fume extraction: ABS and ASA give me a headache almost immediately if the air is not properly managed. After running the [Mintion V1 filtration system](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/mintion/) on my Bambu Lab H2S through several print sessions (a couple of hours of exposure at a time) with ABS, ASA, nylon and polycarbonate, I did not get one. That alone tells me most of what I need to know.

As part of our ongoing lab testing program—[which we described in our recent Formlabs materials review](https://www.voxelmatters.com/voxelmatters-review-formlabs-tough-2000-v4-resin-shows-how-tough-the-form-4-really-is/)—we have been running our review printers continuously to understand their performance over extended use. The Bambu Lab H2S has been our workhorse for engineering-grade materials, and paired with the AMS HT, it has seen a steady diet of ABS, ASA, and PC. Even in relatively small print volumes, the fumes from ABS and ASA are hard to ignore. When Mintion offered us the chance to test their V1 filtration system, we took them up on it.

The V1 is a compact filtration unit priced at €65.95 (approximately $72). It's a small system, but it's sufficient to clear up the build volume of a desktop 3D printer. Even a larger one like the H2S. We have been running the filtration system for a total of about 30 hours when writing this, so we cannot provide a review of the system's duration and solidity over time. But it looks sufficiently sturdy and well-built.

It connects to the exhaust port of an enclosed 3D printer and runs intake air through a triple-layer stack: a pre-filter for larger particles and dust, an H13 HEPA filter for ultrafine particles, and an activated carbon bed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including styrene from ABS and caprolactam from nylon. A centrifugal fan delivers airflow up to 60 m³/h and outlet velocities up to 10 m/s. The included connector fits Bambu Lab P1S and X1C printers by default; other machines require printed adapters available through Mintion's compatible connectors library or the MakerWorld community.

## Custom installation

Physical installation involves removing two screws from the back of the printer, attaching the filter interface and waste outlet cover in their place using those same screws, and connecting the 100mm duct between the printer exhaust and the V1 unit. The 24V DC power adapter plugs into the unit's power input socket. A rotary knob on the power supply controls fan speed: turn clockwise to increase and counterclockwise to reduce.

For printers other than the P1S and X1C, installation requires a printed exhaust adapter. Mintion maintains a community-sourced library of downloadable connector files organized by printer model. At the time of writing, it covers Bambu Lab H2S, H2D, P2S, Prusa Core One and Original Prusa Enclosure, Creality K1, K1 Max, and K2 Plus, Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro, Elegoo Centauri Carbon, Anycubic Kobra 3 and S1, and the EufyMake E1 UV printer. A few entries carry modification notes — the Flashforge adapter requires trimming the tube from 120mm to 100mm, and some Anycubic adapters similarly need a tube reduction. All files are available for download on Mintion's connector compatibility page. The company is also open to designers who create adapters for unlisted printers.

The H2S connector designed by Bambu Lab is listed in the library and connects directly to the V1's standard 100mm tubing. It can be printed directly from MakerWorld, but I took a shortcut and installed the Mintion V1 tube directly around the Bambu Lab adapter (that I had already installed for the laser adapter's exhaust tube). The included sealing cover is designed for X1C and P1S printers, but Miintion said it's not necessary for the H2S. Once that was clarified, installation was straightforward.

## Custom ventilation

The operating logic is straightforward but requires some attention depending on the material being printed. For higher-temperature materials—like ABS, ASA, nylon or PC—Mintion recommends running the fan at no more than 20% during the print to avoid pulling heat out of the chamber and causing layer adhesion issues.

For larger models that cover more than 50% of the build plate, the guidance is to leave the filter off entirely during printing. After the print ends, you must turn the dial to 100% and run it for 10 minutes before opening the door. The post-print phase can be partially automated through slicer settings by configuring the exhaust fan to run at 100% automatically after the print completes. The company says you can also configure the auxiliary fan to run automatically at 100%, but we were not able to locate this option in the Bambu Lab slicer settings.

With materials like ABS and ASA, residual fumes in the chamber are substantial, and clearing them before opening the door makes a noticeable difference. For PLA, PETG, and TPU, the filter can run throughout the print at up to 50% speed, with the auxiliary and exhaust fans enabled in the slicer settings. The same ten-minute post-print purge at 100% applies.

## Easy running

Getting the unit running on the H2S required a brief back-and-forth with Mintion's support team. First, the DC power supply was not immediately visible in the box. I contacted the Mintion team to learn that it's located inside the hose to save space during packing. It's a minor detail, but it may be useful to know avoid wasting time looking for it.

With the system running, the difference between ABS and ASA was immediately perceptible—both in odor and overall air purity. We printed mainly ABS and ASA parts, and all of them came out defect-free. We also printed a few PC parts, which initially produced less odor, and the unit handled it without issue. We also tested it on a highly filled PETG-CF from Xenia Materials (more on these materials is coming) with no significant issues in terms of dimensional accuracy. Day-to-day operation once the unit is installed is uncomplicated: the fan speed is controlled by the knob, and the filter modules can be swapped out quickly without tools.

Mintion recommends replacing the filter set approximately every three months at eight hours of printing per day under general use conditions, sooner if airflow drops or odor breaks through. For VOC-heavy workflows focused on ABS and ASA, the company suggests replacing the pre-filter with a second activated carbon stage to improve styrene adsorption.

At under $72/€65, the V1 is not an excessive expense relative to what it protects. Anyone printing ABS, ASA, or other high-VOC materials in an enclosed home or office environment should have something like this in place.

It could quite literally save you a headache.
