Additive manufacturing tends to fit well in segments where innovation is fierce. That’s why it’s no surprise that the energy sector is an important adopter of AM technologies. Today, almost every form of energy generation is using or exploring the use of additive to make systems and processes more efficient. In this eBook, we’re looking at the ways in which AM is being implemented in this sphere, from the complex components required in nuclear energy generation to the large-scale structures of wind power.

In the following publication, we invite you to read all about the ever-growing applications of additive manufacturing in nuclear, where the technology is applied both for developing high-performance specialized components as well as radiation-resistant maintenance and repair tools that could keep aging nuclear plants up and running for longer. A case study from Velo3D showcases how its metal AM solution is being used by Upwing Energy to accelerate lead times for its Subsurface Compressor System that enables natural gas companies to extract more efficiently from existing wells.

Next, we are excited to feature an interview with ReCarbon, a company that has developed a plasma carbon conversion technology that transforms greenhouse gases into clean energy. Paul Hichwa, Senior Mechanical Engineer of R&D at ReCarbon tells us about how additive manufacturing has been a critical manufacturing method in this technology’s development and production. Finally, we are turning to wind to look at the many ongoing projects that are evaluating AM for turbine production, from direct on-site production of tower bases to the printing of large-scale molds for turbine components.
