# Voltage launches Eclipse X9 basalt-PETG composite for large-format AM

Hawaiian company [Voltage Vessels](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/voltage-materials/)/[Voltage Materials](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/voltage-materials/) has launched Eclipse X9, a basalt-reinforced recycled PETG composite designed for large-format additive manufacturing, now available in both pellet and filament forms. The material has been in development for several years and targets marine structures, tooling, buoys, unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), infrastructure components, and harsh coastal environments. It is platform agnostic and is currently under evaluation across multiple LFAM facilities and printer platforms.

Pellets are available for LFAM and extrusion applications on Caracol/CEAD-type robotic systems and CMS/JuggerBot-type gantry systems, with bulk supply for contract manufacturing. Filament is offered in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm formats, compatible with desktop to large-format FFF printers, including the Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga class. Custom compounding is also available for OEM and defense qualification programs.

## Eclipsing other maritime materials

Eclipse X9 was validated by the University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC) and tested to ASTM D638 and D790 mechanical standards, with ISO 12215 marine scantling analysis. Saltwater immersion testing ran for 24 to 26 months, with the material retaining over 90 percent of its strength.

Published mechanical properties include a tensile strength of 108.2 MPa, a bending strength of 112.98 MPa, a bending modulus of 12 GPa, heat deflection above 70°C, and water absorption below 0.4 percent. The basalt fiber reinforcement is nonconductive, RF-transparent, and produces a low radar return, properties the company described as relevant to defense and autonomous maritime applications.

Eclipse X9 is also mechanically recyclable in a closed loop: printed parts can be shredded, repelletized, and reprinted without material discard.

## Demonstration cruise on Nāia 25

The Nāia 25, a 25-ft electric research power catamaran concept currently in design and engineering, is being developed around the Eclipse X9 as a demonstration of the material's marine capabilities. Voltage Vessels described early production feedback as positive, particularly around printability, bead consistency, surface quality, stiffness, and handling. The company is also evaluating color options for marine service, including naval gray, bronze sand, and lighter tones designed to reduce heat buildup while preserving the basalt fiber character of the material.

Voltage describes itself as a materials company that manufactures, rather than as a manufacturer of materials. The company is accepting sample orders, technical evaluations, and application-specific inquiries.
