VELO3D secures largest 3D printer order to date from aerospace customer
The order, placed by an unnamed customer in the aerospace sector, is worth $20 million

VELO3D, the developer of support-free metal 3D printing technology, has today announced it received a $20 million order from an existing aerospace customer. The order for its metal additive manufacturing systems is the largest it has received since its commercial launch in September 2018.
The $20M order announcement comes right on the heels of a series of investment announcements from VELO3D. In April, the company revealed it had raised $28 million in a Series D financing round. Then, last week, it announced an additional $12 million in funding, bringing its total investments to $150 million. The large order for its Sapphire 3D printing systems shows that the company is not anywhere close to done growing.
“This significant order validates that VELO3D’s SupportFree process is production-ready,” commented Benny Buller, Founder and CEO of VELO3D. “Our recent successes across various industrial sectors show that many OEMs and contract manufacturers are adapting their supply chain to meet the demands of manufacturing mission-critical components. Design freedom, agile production, and quality assurance are requirements that VELO3D is uniquely positioned to meet.”
VELO3D’s Sapphire system is a metal 3D printing system capable of achieving support-free additive manufacturing. The technology is enabled thanks to three key things: software, closed loop control and VELO3D’s unique recoater process. Looking at the company’s dealings with the aerospace sector, it has been working alongside a handful of companies, including Honeywell Aerospace and Boom Supersonic.
