Velo3D and Incodema3D announce partnership to accelerate metal AM at IMTS

Incodema3D adds Velo3D's Sapphire metal 3D printing solution to its service offering

California-based 3D printing company Velo3D is showing no signs of slowing down since the unveiling of Sapphire, the first support-free metal PBF 3D printer last month. The company’s latest news comes out of IMTS in Chicago, where it announced a new partnership with metal 3D printing service Incodema3D. Together, the companies will work to accelerate the adoption of metal AM across a range of industries.

Through the partnership, Incodema3D will introduce Velo3D’s Sapphire 3D printing platform as well as its Flow software to its own offering, aiming to provide its clients with more production options. Incodema3D’s clients include companies from the aerospace, automotive and energy sectors.

“Velo3D’s Sapphire system is a unique solution with its first of a kind in-situ metrology and real time close-loop control,” commented Scott Volk, Incodema3D CTO. “It enables customers to truly control the quality of additive manufacturing on every part. Through this partnership with Velo3D we can provide our customers with new levels of production services and unlock new designs at unprecedented levels of quality control.”

The Sapphire production system, currently on display at IMTS in Chicago, is part of Velo3D’s end-to-end metal AM solution, which also comprises its Flow print software and Intelligent Fusion technology. The three-part solution aims to address existing challenges in metal AM, including product design limitations, part-to-part consistency, process control and cost-effective manufacturing.

In terms of hardware, the Sapphire 3D printer uses a laser technology and metal powder bed to build up complex metal objects. Perhaps the most notable feature of the recently released system is its ability to 3D print parts with overhangs (less than five degrees) and large inner diameters without the need for supports.

“The technology adoption partnership with Incodema3D is very strategic for us,” said Benny Buller, CEO of Velo3D. “Incodema3D has a very strong track record in the metal additive manufacturing industry delivering 3D printing services to leaders in the aerospace, energy and industrial applications. We anticipate our collaboration will start a new wave of growth for the industry.”

Greg Galvin, executive chairman of Incodema3D, also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying: “Velo3D’s technology provides unique capabilities that enable designs we previously could not fulfill. The Velo3D Sapphire solution complements our manufacturing capacity and opens the door to new production opportunities that will drive further adoption of metal additive manufacturing. We look forward to accelerating our growth with this partnership.”

Last year, Incodema3D made the news for acquiring two EOS M 290 and one EOS M 400 3D printers. The metal AM service also boasts a number of industry qualifications and extensive post-processing solutions for its clients.
