# ValCUN brings its MMD technology to Brainport Industry Campus

[ValCUN, headquartered in Ghent](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/valcun/), Belgium, is joining the [Bainport Industry Campus in Eindhoven](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/brainport-industries-campus-bic/) as part of the “Optimization of Production by 3DP” (3DOP) project, funded by the European Regional and Development Fund (ERDF) and managed under the Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) framework. Central to ValCUN’s offering is its patented Molten Metal Deposition (MMD) technology, a process that uses molten metal in a controlled, highly efficient manner. MMD sidesteps many challenges associated with traditional metal AM, like powder-based processes or expensive lasers. This powder-free, laser-free approach makes MMD safer, more affordable, and compatible with standard metals, enhancing its potential for industrial production.

Brainport Industry Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven, Netherlands, serves as a collaborative hub for advanced manufacturing innovation. Designed to bridge the gap between research and practical application, BIC offers companies access to state-of-the-art facilities, collaborative spaces, and testing environments. This unique setting fosters advancements in AM, where companies like ValCUN can demonstrate the scalability and industrial feasibility of AM.

The demonstrator at BIC offers companies a space to test 3D printing as a viable production method. With expert guidance and access to specialized equipment, companies can explore how AM may enhance their processes, reduce waste, or expand their product capabilities. AMcubator’s resources and expertise make it easier for businesses to adopt AM confidently and cost-effectively.

AMcubator, located within BIC, offers an all-encompassing platform that brings together 3D printing experts, companies, and resources. Covering a spacious 1,100m² area, AMcubator provides companies access to cutting-edge 3D printing technology, expertise in software, materials, and production automation, making it a one-stop destination for testing and scaling AM solutions. Partners in the ecosystem include AM-flow, Hexagon, and KMWE, all working together to drive AM adoption across industries.

“We house leading 3D printing companies in hardware, software, materials, validation and automation. All together in one area,” said Maarten van Dijk, the initiator of AMcubator. “We are taking the role of facilitator between the participants to ensure a one-stop-shop for all industries looking to onboard 3D printing as a production technology. A company that wants to start with 3D printing, can find expertise, support and test facilities to discover if 3D printing can answer their question and to find out how they can use 3D printing to scale.”

Several specialized partners enrich the ecosystem at AMcubator, each contributing a unique element to the AM value chain. This collaborative network allows AMcubator to provide comprehensive solutions that range from hardware to validation and automation, streamlining the entire AM production process. The presence of these partners fosters an environment where companies can innovate faster and more effectively than they could in isolation.

Through 3DOP, ValCUN, BIC, and AMcubator are pushing the boundaries of AM technology to address the specific needs of European industries. The 3DOP project is focused on enhancing production efficiency and adaptability in AM. By refining AM technologies and creating frameworks for their deployment, the project enables businesses to overcome traditional limitations of AM, such as high costs and limited scalability. Jan De Pauw, CTO of ValCUN, added, "To make this concept even more concrete, the 3DOP consortium launched an Open Call to innovative companies to let them explore the possibilities of industrial Additive Manufacturing for their business. We hope that this minifactory concept at BIC acts as a trigger and enabler for this Open Call".
