# VACCO delivers additively manufactured valve for U.S. Navy submarine fleet

VACCO Industries has manufactured and delivered a [pressure-regulating valve produced through additive manufacturing](https://www.voxelmatters.com/hunt-valve-to-3d-print-valve-assembly-for-us-navy-submarines/) to support the U.S. Navy's submarine fleet sustainment program.

Penn United Technologies Inc. printed the valve body, made from a copper-nickel (Cu-Ni) alloy, using laser powder bed fusion, then delivered the part to VACCO for final assembly.

The Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) funded the effort through the Maritime Sustainment Technology and Innovation Consortium (MSTIC), a Navy Other Transaction Authority (OTA) program focused on introducing advanced manufacturing methods to the fleet. The program was carried out in collaboration with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

Following assembly, the valve completed non-destructive and production-level testing and was cleared for installation aboard a submarine. VACCO said the outcome was made possible by the Navy's AM Material Maturity efforts.

VACCO described the program as marking progress in speeding the delivery of components to the fleet while strengthening the Navy's supply chain. The company said it intends to continue using the Navy's additive material specifications in future part production.
