# UNITED GRINDING Group and GF Machining Solutions merge to form UNITED MACHINING SOLUTIONS

The UNITED GRINDING Group has completed its acquisition of the GF Machining Solutions Division from Georg Fischer AG, [creating a new entity under the name UNITED MACHINING SOLUTIONS](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/gf-machining-solutions/). The combined group, headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, now comprises 15 industrial brands, employs around 5,000 people across more than 50 global locations, and reports total annual sales exceeding $1.5 billion.

## A merger of complementary strengths

The integration unites two of Switzerland’s best-known machine tool manufacturers, combining complementary technologies and market footprints. “There has been a long-standing desire to merge the two companies,” said Stephan Nell, Chief Executive Officer of UNITED MACHINING SOLUTIONS. “It is rare for two companies to complement each other as well as UNITED GRINDING and GF Machining Solutions — not only in their product portfolios and international reach, but also in their shared culture and quality standards.”

Lead shareholders Rosmarie and Martin Ebner supported the merger through a capital increase, which Nell described as a decisive step toward creating a global machine tool leader. Fred Gaegauf, Chairman of the Board of Directors at UNITED GRINDING Group, called the result “a Swiss powerhouse in machine tool manufacturing.”

Ivan Filisetti, formerly CEO of GF Machining Solutions and now a member of the new group’s Management Board, emphasized the strategic fit between the two organizations. “Our products do not overlap; they complement each other. This makes integration much easier,” he said. “As a Swiss company, we share the same culture and commitment to innovation and digitalization.”

## Global scale, shared Swiss roots

UNITED MACHINING SOLUTIONS will operate through two main divisions: UNITED GRINDING and UNITED MACHINING. The UNITED GRINDING division includes the brands Mägerle, Blohm, Jung, Studer, Schaudt, Mikrosa, Walter, Ewag, and IRPD, specializing in surface and profile grinding, cylindrical grinding, tool machining, and additive manufacturing.

The UNITED MACHINING division incorporates technologies and brands from GF Machining Solutions, including Agie Charmilles, Charmilles, Mikron Mill, Liechti, Step Tec, and System 3R. These operations focus on high-speed milling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), laser texturing, and micro-machining, as well as spindles, automation, and digitalization solutions.

According to the company, the expanded portfolio and shared international presence enable closer customer support and faster response times. “With more than 50 locations worldwide, we are among the most international machine tool manufacturers,” Nell stated.

## Established leadership team

The new management board of UNITED MACHINING SOLUTIONS includes four long-time industry executives: Stephan Nell as Chairman and CEO, Ivan Filisetti as head of technology and CEO of UNITED MACHINING, Michael Horn overseeing Operations and IT, and Heinz Poklekowski as Chief Financial Officer responsible for Finance and Group Services.

Nell said the group’s brands will remain central to its external identity. “We want to strengthen further the identities of our brands, which have been known and trusted in the market for many years. Each stands for high quality and innovation in its field,” he said.

The merger positions UNITED MACHINING SOLUTIONS as one of the largest and most diversified machine tool manufacturers globally, combining Swiss engineering expertise with a broad international network.
