UNF’s College of Computing, Engineering and Construction (CCEC) 3D printing center is about to get a quarter of a million dollar upgrade.

APR Energy and The John and Suzanne Campion Family Foundation donated $250,000 to expand the CCEC 3D printing center, which opened two years ago.

“This generous gift will propel the college to a new level of research and education as well as international recognition as 3-D printing is the most transformative innovation to hit manufacturing since the steam engine,” said Dr. Mark Tumeo, UNF CCEC dean.

Foundation President John Campion says his goal with this donation is to help UNF’s 3D printing facility to continue to grow.

The CCEC plans to construct a new facility behind the Science and Engineering building to
house the new and expanding 3D printing lab. The 6,000 square foot building will be two stories high.

Currently the 3D Printing Laboratory space, housed in the Science and Engineering Building at UNF, has provided cooperative educational and research opportunities for University undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty researchers in the engineering, chemistry, biology and physics disciplines. The Laboratory also assists MD&D Global Services, LLC in its efforts to personalize health care delivery through 3-D printing technologies.

The College of Computing, Engineering and Construction at UNF offers exciting and demanding degree programs that lead to highly rewarding careers. One of the College’s hallmarks is the interaction of the faculty with students on research projects. Faculty is committed to preparing students to make significant contributions to their chosen professions and the Northeast Florida region and beyond.
