# Ukrainian designer Sofia Rousinovich presents 3D printed shoe series

When fashion designer Sofia Rousinovich's ALIVE streetwear collection hit the Ukrainian Fashion Week runways in FW 2019, her brand ROUSSIN seemed poised to make an impact. Unfortunately, the brand's trajectory was disrupted just a couple years later by the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.

Based in Kyiv, Rousinovich had to reorient and find new opportunities for her design talents. As part of this reorientation, she not only became AI lead and founding partner of the FFFACE.ME studio, which specializes in augmented reality filters and digital fashion tools, she also taught herself how to 3D print and design for 3D printing. Recently, Rousinovich unveiled the fruits of this learning, launching a series of 3D printed shoes that people can 3D print themselves.

The footwear collection comprises some fairly avant-garde shoes, including skeleton-inspired sandals, lace-up swan sandals, and eye-catching Voronoi heels, as well as a pair of everyday 3D printed sandals that are printed in a single piece and are fastened around the foot using an integrated button system. Rather than 3D print and distribute the shoes herself, Rousinovich is selling the STL files and printing instructions for the shoes on her Patreon and Etsy [pages](https://www.patreon.com/cw/roussingirl/posts).

Rousinovich has taken advantage of the design freedom and production capabilities of 3D printing in her footwear models. In the case of the button-up sandals, for instance, she has created a design that can be printed flat, without supports, and that does not require any assembly. Using variable textures and densities, the shoe has a supportive fishbone-inspired sole and a porous, almost netted upper. In addition to the 3D printed shoes, Rousinovich has also designed a series of 3D printable accessories, including spine-inspired sunglass frames, a skeleton-inspired handbag, and butterfly swimsuit embellishments.
