Tripo AI launches P2.0 model to generate native quad meshes for production pipelines
The official release follows August's preview and adds multi-version generation from a single prompt, plus a Mesh Edit tool that regenerates only selected regions of a model
Tripo AI launched Tripo P2.0 on September 21, 2026. It is the latest version of the company’s 3D-native foundation model and the first AI 3D generation model to produce quad topology natively. P2.0 succeeds Tripo Smart Mesh P1.0 and generates high-fidelity assets that creators can move directly into production. Until now, AI-generated geometry has usually needed retopology before it could be used in game and film pipelines, which are built on quad meshes.
The P2.0 Preview came out in August. The official release adds two features: several versions of an asset from a single prompt and Mesh Edit. Both are meant to make it easier to edit, rig, animate and integrate AI-generated characters and props into existing production workflows.
“Topology has been the wall between AI-generated 3D and real production: game and film pipelines are built on quad meshes, and until now AI got there only through slow, unstable retopology. P2.0 can quickly generate quad-dominant meshes natively, with clean part separation and the edge flow an artist would lay out manually. Production-ready is today’s bar; the longer-term goal for Tripo is to build models that understand, generate and interact with 3D environments,” said Dr Yanpei Cao, Chief Scientist of Tripo AI.
P2.0 generates both triangle-based and quad-based assets. Triangle meshes go up to 50,000 faces and quad meshes up to 25,000 faces. One prompt can return up to four versions of the same asset at different face counts, so creators can choose the level of detail each use case needs.
Tripo P2.0 also introduces another, very welcome, new feature: with Mesh Edit, users select any region of a mesh and regenerate it while the rest of the asset stays unchanged. Creators can refine a model step by step instead of regenerating the whole thing in the hope of a better result. P2.0 also shows front, back, left and right views of each generated asset, which helps the output match what the user intended. Its Smart UV function unwraps a 3D asset into a 2D layout with one click, ready for texturing and further editing.
Smart Mesh P2.0 is designed for games and interactive experiences, and its main users are 3D artists, technical artists, and game developers. It is particularly suited to game characters, hard-surface objects such as vehicles, props, and buildings, and generating large numbers of assets.
Tripo AI was founded in 2023. It develops 3D-native foundation models and world models and offers them through Tripo Studio and the Tripo API, with users in intelligent manufacturing, virtual reality, interactive entertainment and embodied AI.
