Thor3D partners with 3D Systems to offer Geomagic software
Thor3D, a leading Russian manufacturer of 3D scanning equipment, is partnering with 3D Systems to resell the American AM industry leader’s 3D Geomagic software, including Geomagic Wrap, Geomagic Design X, and Geomagic Control X.
3D Systems, which is known as a 3D printer manufacturers and the first company to commercialize a stereolithographic system in 1986, also offers a very wide selection of 3D software for both process management and reverse engineering. Engineering software from 3D Systems enable the creation of 3D data from scans, design and using that data in manufacturing, 3D printing and 3D inspection of production parts.
Thor3D’s Drake and, the recently announced, Calibry scanners are professional and affordable systems that can scan difficult surfaces such as shiny/black objects and sharp edges. “This is hopefully only the first step in our collaboration. We are discussing ways to integrate our software and hardware, as well as ways we can build a closer bond between the companies business-wise,” said Thor3D’s CEO Anna Zevelyov.
Geomagic Design X is 3D Systems’ reverse engineering software, combining history-based CAD with 3D scan data processing to create feature-based, editable solid models compatible with existing CAD software. The software is purpose-built for converting 3D scan data into high-quality feature-based CAD models, through a combination of automatic and guided solid model extraction, surface fitting to organic 3D scans, mesh editing and point cloud processing. Scanning prototypes, existing parts, tooling or related objects, and creating designs in a fraction of the time it would take to manually measure and create CAD models from scratch, can dramatically reduce time to market.
Finally, Geomagic Control X is a professional metrology software used to capture and process the data from 3D scanners and other devices to measure, understand, and communicate inspection results.
