According to recently published information by EOS‘s Product Line Manager Michael Kowal, there are now more than 370 EOS M 400 3D printed installed globally. This makes the EOS M 400 family of systems one of the most successful industrial-grade 3D printers ever in terms of unit sales. Considering the machine’s price, its success is even more significant in terms of generated revenues.

According to 3dpbm‘s latest Metal AM Trends and Opportunities market report, this figure amounts to between 5% and 6% of the total of metal PBF systems units installed globally life to date (including both L-PBF and EB-PBF systems). Based on information collected via the 3D Printing Business Directory and an in-depth survey sent out to all segment operators, the report provides the most accurate information available today on the metal AM market’s products and size, along with 10-year growth forecasts.

The market-leading metal AM platform was first introduced in 2013, in the middle of a significant inflection point in global AM adoption. The first prototype had been completed and installed at EOS in 2012. Shortly thereafter, in 2014, the new EOS M 400-4 quad laser system was introduced as one of the most productive metal 3D printers ever. Today larger systems based on the EOS M 400 architecture are also available from AMCM (which were recently installed at Sintavia, Morf3D and Launcher).

The standard configuration features 400 x 400 x 400 build volume with 1000-watt laser power to increase productivity with higher build rates and thicker layers. A comprehensive collection of standard materials is available, from light metals to stainless steel, tool steels and superalloys.

Perhaps even more impressively, the EOS Maisach facility is now assembling as many as 9 EOS M 400 systems at the same time, demonstrating that demand is certainly not decreasing.
