Tethon 3D releases Graphenite graphene-based 3D printing resin and more

Coriderite and mullite ceramic resins also on the way for Bison 1000 customers

Tethon Corporation (dba Tethon 3D), a global materials company out of Omaha, Nebraska, (USA) is releasing three new UV-curable resins for the Bison 1000 DLP printer. The company developed and began selling graphene, branded as Graphenite, along with Cordierite, and Mullite resins to Bison 1000 customers this month. The target market for these materials is the industrial production of a variety of geometrically-complex technical ceramic parts.

“Our team is very excited to launch these new materials. With the power of the Bison 1000 we are able to plug and play a wide variety of technical ceramics,” said Greg Pugh, Tethon 3D Chief Technology Officer.  “The open settings of the printer also allows our customers to utilize Tethon 3D’s Genesis base resins to formulate custom ceramic and metal UV curable resins in house. With this system, there are hundreds of materials that can be adapted to work within our open ecosystem.”

Graphenite is based on of the world’s strongest materials, graphene, which is lightweight and conductive. The material is extremely challenging to 3D print and many have tried (and met with limited success) with many different technologies before. Potential applications using graphene include manufacturing parts with added mechanical strength and conductivity, increasing energy storage in batteries and supercapacitors, anti-corrosive and scratch-resistant coatings, efficient sensors and electronics and many other 3D printed parts.

Cordierite and mullite are ceramic-based 3D printable resins, which is Tethon 3D’s core business and expertise. Cordierite is a technical ceramic used for parts requiring high thermal shock tolerance. Potential 3D printed applications include refractory shapes, welding tapes, ceramic mirrors, heaters, thermocouples, and insulators.

Mullite is another technical ceramic that is valuable for its low thermal expansion, low thermal conductivity, excellent creep resistance, high-temperature strength and good chemical stability. 3D printed applications include electrical insulators and end parts for the defense and aerospace industries.

It’s especially exciting to launch the first commercially available UV curable Graphene resin. We anticipate Graphenite™ will be used not only for its conductive properties but also see it being an alternative to what has been an explosion of carbon fiber extrusion materials in the market,” added Karen Linder, Chair Tethon 3D.
