# TDK Corporation to acquire Fabric8Labs in strategic AI infrastructure move

TDK Corporation, the Tokyo-based electronics components group, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire [Fabric8Labs, Inc., the San Diego company that developed Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM)](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/fabric8labs/) — [a process that builds metal parts by depositing material through a controlled electrochemical reaction](https://www.voxelmatters.com/university-of-illinois-team-3d-prints-pure-copper-cold-plates-for-electronics-cooling/) rather than melting or sintering feedstock.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory clearance and other customary closing conditions, and has been reported to have a value of around $400 million.

[Founded in 2015](https://www.voxelmatters.com/fabric8labs-raises-19m-to-commercialize-new-metal-am-technology/), Fabric8Labs has directed its technology at electronics manufacturing segments where conventional production methods face physical constraints, including liquid cooling hardware for data center infrastructure, passive components for power regulation, and radio frequency (RF) components for wireless communications. 

The company claims its ECAM process reduces accelerator temperatures by up to 7 °C/kW compared to competing thermal management solutions — a margin it said translates into higher silicon power densities, greater rack density, and extended component longevity for hyperscale operators.

## Strategic rationale for the acquisition

TDK's president framed the acquisition as an addition to its existing product capabilities. 

“Fabric8Labs' ECAM technology is exactly the kind of foundational manufacturing innovation we look for — one that doesn't just improve on TDK's existing solution but enables products and performance levels that weren't previously achievable, contributing to the transformation of society,” commented Noboru Saito, President and Chief Executive Officer of TDK Corporation.

“As data center infrastructure continues to scale and the performance demands on advanced electronics intensify, we envision that by bringing this technology into our global manufacturing network and providing products that determine the performance of next-generation data centers, it will be a significant advantage for our customers.”

Production scale will be a primary near-term benefit for existing customers, said David Pain, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Fabric8Labs.

Fabric8Labs stated it would continue operating under its existing leadership team following the close of the transaction.
