Stratasys Presents Carbon Fiber & Design Contest for Creatives and Interior Designers

The CARBON FIBER & DESIGN CONTEST 2017, with the participation of 3D printing industry leader Stratasys, is organized by Olympus-FRP Brigante Engineering Group, a company specialized in composite materials, carbon fibers and new technologies for engineering and architecture.

Several other companies and composite experts, including AD3D Printing, the Arch. Simonetta Pegorari, Communication&Marketing – Composite Materials, Tepco srl and CMC Composite Materials Center are also co-organizing this international competition, now in its fifth edition, which aims to raise awareness of creatives, designers and architects, in the innovative use of carbon fiber, associated with the modern technology of additive manufacturing.

J750_AngleRight_Open-High-Resolution1.jpgThe theme of this edition will focus on “planning in color with the largest 3D polychromatic and multi-material printer, the Stratasys J750. Creativity is immediate feedback with realistic colors and materials that make obsolete the uncertainty.

The Subject
Participants are asked to conceive and design a complement of interior design or design office, which must not exceed the maximum size of 490x390x200 mm achievable with Stratasys 3D Printer J750. The proposed object must be unpublished and having as only constraint the feasibility and industry reproducibility.

Evaluation criteria
It will be awarded the projects that stand out for their originality, aesthetic appeal and functionality. Projects will enhance the intrinsic characteristics of the Additive Manufacturing technology.

The competition is open to all professionals between 18 and 40 years of age at the date of the original publication of the contest. Candidates shall submit a maximum of 2 proposals. The competition involves the participation of single member and groups of up to 3 people, in the last case, although the intellectual property of the work will be belong to all its members of the group, they will be required to appoint a group leader as the sole person in charge of dealing with the organization of competition. The authors of the projects submitted shall take charge of all responsibilities as for the authorship of the works.

Participation and selection
Registration for the CARBON FIBER DESIGN CONTEST 2017 is free. Each candidate project will be submitted to the judgment of the jury that will select the three winning projects.

The prototypes of the three winning projects will be 3D printed wiht the J750 and will exposed in upcoming important trade fairs and industry events.

The jury, at its sole discretion, elect three winning projects that will receive a prize as follows:

> 1st prize: € 500.00 + prototype implementation

> 2nd PRIZE: prototype implementation

> 3rd prize: prototype implementation

Documents required
The graphic reports will use the default layout, with .jpg format, in A4 format (210 x 297mm, max resolution 150 dpi).

 Table #1: at least 2 rendering of the item on a neutral background;

 Table #2: : at least one image of the explanatory mode of use of the object and / or inclusion of it in a context;

 Explanatory report #3: composed of a maximum of 500 characters (languages: English or Italian) in which to describe the use and function of the object, and information on 3D printing technique and material

Attached file #4: STL with the information about the material and color of each shell & VRML 2.0 which already contains the color information.


Project requirements

Use at least two materials among those listed in the downloadable data sheet at: http://usglobalimages.stratasys.com/Main/Files/Machine_Spec_Sheets/PSS_PJ_Stratasys_J750.pdf

Use of at least 2 colors;

The colored parts can be made of various materials, but the texture parties can only be rigid;

Must be able to be printed in a single print job (pot size 490 x 390 x 200 mm);

As post-production of the printed part are only permitted removal of the support material and polishing.

• Registration Form # 5, completed in all its parts.

The file name should be the title of the project followed by # 1-2-3-4-5 Each project will have its own dedicated page. With deliverables 1-2-3-4, on pain of exclusion, it must not indicate the name of the participant.

The organization and the jury reserve the right to request additional artwork to competitors, aiming at a proper understanding of the project. All models in the required conditions can be downloaded from the relevant section on the site: www.ad3dprinting.com.
