# Stratasys doubles down in China

The company’s expansion reflects its broader goal of helping local industries cut costs and strengthen production reliability, particularly in the face of growing geopolitical tensions and potential trade disruptions. “Distributed production enabled by 3D printing has emerged as a strategic solution for manufacturers to avoid paying high tariffs,” said Yoav Zeif, CEO of Stratasys.

By shifting production closer to end users—whether through US or European service bureaus—companies can sidestep logistics delays and tariff volatility. [Stratasys recently introduced its “SAF](https://www.voxelmatters.com/stratasys-launches-saf-relife-software-solution/) (selective absorption fusion) ReLife” program in China, enabling local service bureaus to recycle up to 80% of unused powder from traditional laser-based processes. “Additive manufacturing consumes less energy, creates less waste, and allows for lighter, more efficient product design, especially important in sectors like aerospace and electric vehicles,” Zeif emphasized.

He also highlighted the shift in 3D printing’s role from prototyping to strategic production, especially in low- to mid-volume manufacturing.
