# Space habitation company Vast hiring AM engineer and technician

Vast has plans to launch the space station as soon as August 2025, on SpaceX’s Falcon 9. Excitingly, there is an opportunity to join Vast and help advance its space station project, as the company is currently recruiting in its additive manufacturing division, including for the position of Additive Manufacturing Engineer, and Additive Manufacturing Technician.

## AM Engineer at Vast

The AM engineer post, which will report to the Manager of Additive Manufacturing, is a full-time position that will be based at Vast's facility in Hawthorne. The role is responsible for supporting the "development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations."

Minimum qualifications for this position include a degree in materials science, welding, mechanical, aerospace, or a related engineering field; at least two years of experience in propulsion design or metal AM technologies; and a deep knowledge of metal AM processes, laser powder bed fusion in particular. Responsibilities at Vast will be optimizing the LPBF process, developing new applications, coordinating with OEMs for process optimization, troubleshooting and more; exploring and developing new AM technologies; creating documentation and more.

## AM Technician at Vast

The additive manufacturing technician is a full-time position that will be based at its facility in Hawthorne. According to the job posting, the chosen candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining the company's growing fleet of additive manufacturing systems, as well as operating downstream processes like post-processing and quality control.  

Vast is looking for a candidate that has at least a year of manufacturing experience and a year of experience working with metal laser powder bed fusion systems. Additional experience, though not required, includes having worked in the defense and/or aerospace sectors and familiarity with metal powders—among a number of soft skills like communication, teamwork and leadership.

The additive manufacturing technician position will report to Vast's Supervisor of Additive Manufacturing, and will be tasked with initiating and overseeing print jobs, handling powder management, maintaining the AM workspace, implementing greater process efficiency, operating post-processing equipment, conducting routine maintenance, carrying out verifications and more.
