# Snapmaker U1 desktop 3D printer launches worldwide on April 10

[Snapmaker](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/snapmaker/) is joining the multicolor 3D printing party as the company set a global launch date of April 10 for the U1, a desktop 3D printer built around a proprietary four-toolhead swapping mechanism designed to reduce multi-color printing times and material waste. The machine is available for pre-order at $849.

The company said the system reduces filament waste by up to 80% per print compared with traditional purge-tower methods, which discard significant volumes of material during each color transition. The U1 originally debuted on Kickstarter in 2025, where it set a crowdfunding record for a 3D printer.

The U1 prints at speeds up to 500 mm/s with an acceleration of 20,000 mm/s² and offers a build volume of 270 × 270 × 270 mm. Each of the four toolheads operates as an independent extruder, pre-heated before the swap to eliminate warm-up delays during a print job. Snapmaker positioned the design as delivering up to 5 times faster multi-color output and up to 5 times less waste than conventional systems.

The U1 ships alongside Snapmaker Orca, a software platform with machine-specific material profiles developed through internal engineering testing. A companion mobile app allows users to start, monitor, and manage print jobs remotely and supports time-lapse capture. Snapmaker said it would add AI-powered print monitoring to detect common failure modes, including spaghetti failures and workspace obstructions, in real time.
