3D Printed on demand using HP technology and "fit to face anything"

It was in the air and now it’s here. Smith is the first major brand to introduce personalized, custom-3D printed goggles for ski and snowboarding, the I/O Mag Imprint 3D. Using Smith Imprint 3D Technology, the goggles are based on a precision scan that maps the unique terrain of the user’s face, and then gets 3D printed to create goggles with an ultra-custom fit. Made-to-order. One-of-a-kind. For one person only. The company calls it the “arrival of the fittest”.

The idea behind the I/O Mag Imprint 3D is that with a fit so flawless, the gear itself seems to disappear. And skiers or snowboarders can truly enjoy the moment, the pure focus and exhilaration of being totally immersed in the activity they love.

By leveraging a custom-made frame, the I/O Mag Imprint 3D goggles ensure the elimination of light leaks, air gaps or hot spots, enabling the widest possible field of vision, and all-day comfort to focus on the tight turns and tricky terrain, not on gear issues.

Customers go online on the Smith website to choose lenses and strap; so that the company can create the ultimate in custom ski and snowboarding goggles. This means it is still possible to integrate Smith’s color- and contrast-boosting ChromaPop tech, as well as the quick-swapping MAG lens system. The I/O Mag Imprint 3D goggles also integrate seamlessly with Smith’s helmets for efficient airflow that keeps them fog-free through all weather conditions.

After the order is placed, users receive a unique code and download instructions for the SMITH App (IOS/Apple compatible only) where they can create their 3D face scan with a few quick motions. The custom goggles are then 3D printed using HP Multi Jet Fusion technology and hand-assembled in the USA at Smith’s Utah-based manufacturing facility.

Smith ships the goggles within 14 business days from completion of the face scan. Then all that’s left is to get out there and do your thing.
