# Sinto Advanced Ceramics adds non-oxide ceramics to its 3D printing portfolio

[Sinto Advanced Ceramics Europe](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/bosch-advanced-ceramics/), a contract manufacturer of additively manufactured technical ceramics, has added aluminum nitride (AlN) and silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) to its portfolio. The company said that both non-oxide materials had been evaluated internally and processed in initial projects, and were available for development projects, prototypes and industrial applications.

They joined existing oxide ceramics including alumina, zirconia, ATZ and ZTA.

“Every ceramic material exhibits a characteristic property profile,” said Dr. Malte Hartmann, Head of Research and Development at [Sinto Advanced Ceramics Europe](https://www.voxelmatters.com/bosch-advanced-ceramics-officially-becomes-sinto-advanced-ceramics/). “With aluminum nitride and silicon nitride, we are expanding the range of materials that we can offer for additive manufacturing. This provides our customers with additional freedom in material selection and component design.”

## Material properties and applications

[The company](https://www.voxelmatters.com/sinto-advanced-ceramics-europe-earns-iso-90012015-certification/) said AlN combined electrical insulation with high thermal conductivity, suiting it to thermal management, power electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. It described Si₃N₄ as offering high mechanical strength, good fracture toughness and resistance to thermal shock.

“Material selection always starts with the requirements of the application,” Hartmann continued. “With aluminum nitride and silicon nitride, we can address additional combinations of thermal conductivity, electrical insulation, mechanical robustness, and temperature resistance. Ultimately, the most suitable material always depends on the specific application.”

## Qualification before release

“Materials are often described by their intrinsic properties. For industrial manufacturing, however, the crucial factor is whether those properties can be transferred reproducibly into real components. Accordingly, we systematically investigated processability and process stability before incorporating these materials into our portfolio,” Hartmann said.

“We evaluate new materials not only in terms of material properties but also with regard to process-related metrics,” said Dejan Licinovic, Quality Manager at Sinto Advanced Ceramics Europe. “A material is only added to our portfolio once component quality, process stability, and reproducibility meet the requirements of industrial manufacturing.”

The company said it saw itself as a technical partner in early product development.

“Many projects do not begin with a specific material request, but rather with a technical challenge,” said Frohwald Heller, Head of Sales at Sinto Advanced Ceramics Europe. “Our role is to work together with our customers to identify potential solution paths. In many cases, the actual solution emerges through this exchange, and sometimes that solution involves a material that had not previously been considered. With aluminum nitride and silicon nitride, we can now deliberately broaden this solution space.”
