# SHINING 3D’s EinScan Libre used to digitize sculpture collection at Bremen’s Afroasiatic Gallery

Okyena Collective, a Bremen-based creative studio founded by digital archivist and 3D artist Fara-Farai Awindor and fine artist Merci Ewuresi, has used [SHINING 3D](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/shining-3d/)'s [EinScan Libre all-in-one laser 3D scanner](https://www.voxelmatters.com/shining-3d-expands-all-in-one-scanning-series-with-einscan-rigil-lite-launch/) to create high-fidelity digital records of sculptures held at the Afroasiatic Gallery in Bremen, Germany.

The gallery, which houses a collection of artworks with deep cultural and historical significance, presented a practical challenge for digitization: its contents are accessible only to visitors who can physically attend. The project was conceived as a way to extend reach beyond those constraints by converting physical sculptures into detailed 3D models suitable for archival, educational, and artistic use.

The EinScan Libre's wireless operation and standalone functionality — built around an onboard screen and NVIDIA processor — allowed the team to work through the gallery's tight interior spaces without fixed cabling or external computing equipment. The scanner performs full on-device scan-to-mesh processing and supports marker-free laser capture with texture, which the team relied on to document surface variation across the collection.

## Capturing surface detail across complex forms

Texture fidelity and geometric accuracy were central to the project's goals. The sculptures in the collection feature carved details, varied material surfaces, and organic forms that demanded precise capture.

“We focused on capturing the complex geometries, chiseled details, and varied material surfaces of the sculptures. EinScan Libre's precision allowed us to capture subtle tool marks and organic textures that are vital to the historical storytelling of each piece,” said Awindor.

The resulting 3D models are intended for use in preservation, education, and broader public engagement with the collection's cultural material.

SHINING 3D stated that the project reflects growing interest among museums, galleries, and independent artists in 3D scanning as a tool for artifact digitization and long-term collection management.
