SHINING 3D launches the FreeScan Trak ProW+
The wireless, marker-free system covers more ground per tracker position to cut down on repositioning during large-object inspection
SHINING 3D has launched the FreeScan Trak ProW+, an upgraded successor to its FreeScan Trak ProW wireless tracking and scanning system. Built for measuring large-scale workpieces, the system extends its tracking distance to 8.6 meters and its single-station tracking volume to 156 cubic meters. The wider coverage from a single tracker position is intended to reduce leapfrog operations, in which operators relocate the tracker repeatedly to keep pace with a large scan.
The ProW+ retains the accuracy, repeatability and data acquisition speed of the earlier FreeScan Trak Pro series, but its marker-free scanning now captures up to 7.6 million points per second without requiring markers to be placed on a workpiece beforehand.Â
The system offers three laser modes, including 93 crossed laser lines, 25 parallel laser lines and a single laser line, aimed at supporting both high-speed scanning and closer measurement of complex or hard-to-reach features. Large aircraft component scanning, casting inspection and heavy-duty vehicle scanning in engineering machinery manufacturing are all applications that have been highlighted by the company.
Wireless operation and setup
Built-in computing and wireless modules let the ProW+ run without cables, processing data in real time over a wireless connection. A built-in display shows device information directly on the unit, letting operators move around large workpieces without checking a separate screen for a truly mobile and agile solution.
For large-scale measurements requiring volumetric accuracy, the system uses SHINING 3D’s patented Video Photogrammetry (VPG) technology, which pairs video capture with a calibration rod to verify markers in real time without coded markers. In short, it simplifies setup for large-volume measurement.
Probing and multi-system setups
The ProW+ can also be paired with SHINING 3D’s FreeProbe series for wireless portable probing of features that are difficult to reach or cannot be scanned directly.
During probing, the part, probe and tracker can all move independently, and multiple probe tips are available for different shop-floor inspection needs. Multiple ProW+ units can also work together to expand measurement coverage on extremely large objects, to enable full-field scanning beyond the range of a single system.
