SHINING 3D has released the OptimScan Q12 HD, a high-precision 3D inspection scanner built for industrial metrology applications that demand detailed surface data and flexible automation.

The system achieves an accuracy of 0.004 mm and a minimum point distance of 0.02 mm, both of which the company claims exceed conventional limits for fringe projection optical scanning technology. Four high-resolution cameras capture complex surfaces and minute features across a range of part geometries.

Spanning four application sectors

The scanner targets civil aviation inspection work, including engine and turbine blades, where it captures fine blade edges, curved surfaces, and complex structural features for dimensional inspection, wear analysis, and reverse engineering.

In 3C electronics and precision injection molding, the system addresses components such as earbud housings, connectors, and molded structural parts, which typically present miniature geometries, glossy surfaces, thin walls, and complex edge transitions.

The scanner also supports inspection of assembly gaps, deformation, shrinkage, and surface defects in those environments, and can be integrated with robotic automation for batch inspection in high-volume production lines.

In medical device manufacturing, the OptimScan Q12 HD digitizes precision instruments containing fine contours, narrow structures, and freeform surfaces for dimensional inspection, product development, and digital archiving.

And for cultural heritage preservation, SHINING 3D reported that the scanner is suited to artifacts featuring engravings, relief patterns, and carved structures, where non-contact acquisition reduces physical handling of objects.

Automation and workflow integration

The OptimScan Q12 HD is designed to support robotic integration for repeatable inspection workflows in high-volume manufacturing settings, and SHINING 3D stated the product extends its optical metrology portfolio toward applications requiring a combination of micron-level accuracy, configurable workflows, and industrial-scale throughput.
