# Samuel sells Burloak Technologies to BTX Precision

Samuel, Son & Co., Limited completed the sale of [its additive manufacturing subsidiary, Burloak Technologies](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/burloak-technologies-inc/), to i[3D MFG, a division of BTX Precision](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/i3d-mfg/), effective May 12, 2026.

The transaction marks Samuel's exit from the 3D printing sector. The Canadian metals distributor and industrial manufacturer had operated Burloak as its AM business unit, building the company into a metal additive manufacturing service provider with a strong focus on aerospace applications.

## What Burloak brings

[Burloak operates two additive manufacturing facilities](https://www.voxelmatters.com/building-am-burloak-technologies/)—in Oakville, Ontario, and Camarillo, California—running a fleet of more than 30 industrial metal 3D printers from EOS, Trumpf, Renishaw, SLM Solutions, and GE Additive. Its process capabilities span laser powder bed fusion, electron beam powder bed fusion, and directed energy deposition. Both facilities include vertically integrated post-processing infrastructure: multi-axis CNC machining centers, ISO 17025-accredited materials and metrology labs, and NADCAP-accredited heat treatment facilities.

The company holds lab certifications across more than a dozen materials, spanning titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-4V), nickel superalloys (Inconel 625, Inconel 718), stainless steels, aluminum alloys, maraging steel, and tungsten, supporting production for aerospace, defense, and industrial customers.

## A combined fleet of 60+ metal AM systems

i3D MFG was already an established metal additive manufacturing service provider before the acquisition, operating more than 30 direct metal laser solidification machines with a maximum build envelope of 400 × 400 × 400 mm. Its powder portfolio covers iron-, nickel-, cobalt-, copper-, aluminum-, titanium-, and stainless-steel-based alloys, with documented applications including nickel-alloy aerospace combustors, titanium hip stems, Haynes 282 rocket chambers, and tool-steel molds.

The combined entity now operates more than **60 metal additive manufacturing machines** across laser powder bed fusion, electron beam powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, and direct metal laser solidification platforms across facilities in Ontario, California, and the United States. BTX Precision said the deal expands its capacity to serve aerospace, defense, space, energy, medical, and semiconductor markets.

Samuel, founded in 1855 and family-owned, continues to operate more than 70 service centers, automotive, and diversified manufacturing locations across North America, offering metal processing and finishing and automated solutions.
