Safran Additive Manufacturing Campus installs second NXG XII 600
The French aerospace company is scaling with large format systems from the German AM hardware manufacturer
The Safran Additive Manufacturing Campus, a leading division within Safran dedicated to advanced additive manufacturing, has acquired a second NXG XII 600 system from Nikon SLM Solutions. This strategic addition will significantly boost Safran’s production capacity, accelerating the development and industrialization of next-generation aerospace components.
Renowned for its high throughput, expansive build volume, and robust 12-laser configuration, the NXG XII 600 is aligned with Safran’s strategy to scale up the manufacturing of lightweight, high-performance aluminium parts. The acquisition addresses critical production challenges by easing bottlenecks, increasing operational redundancy, and ensuring the high reliability essential for serial manufacturing. It also reinforces Safran’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency, supporting efforts to lower the carbon footprint of aerospace production. With its capability to manufacture large and complex parts at a lower cost per unit, the NXG XII 600 plays a pivotal role in enabling Safran to meet stringent aerospace standards while fostering innovation and design flexibility.
François-Xavier Foubert, Managing Director of Safran Additive Manufacturing Campus, highlighted the significance of the investment, stating that the addition of a second NXG XII 600 reinforces their production infrastructure and enhances their ability to supply high-quality components for both current and future aerospace programs. Safran also highlighted its use of AM at the recent Paris Air Show.
This move strengthens an already well-established partnership between Nikon SLM Solutions and Safran, which began with the deployment of two SLM500 systems and the original NXG XII 600. Jean-Christophe Vidil, Président of Nikon SLM France, remarked that Safran’s continued trust is a testament to Nikon SLM’s reputation as a reliable and financially strong partner. He emphasized that this collaboration is setting new benchmarks within the aerospace industry.
