RCAM, RMIT university’s Centre for Additive Manufacturing will be acquiring an AconityMIDI+ from Aconity3D GmbH and an Arcemy unit from AML3D (ASX:AL3). These two strategic purchases will significantly augment the capability of the Australian University’s research group to continue to deliver high-level research for industry applications.

The RMIT Centre for Additive Manufacturing (RCAM) is a leading multi-disciplinary center focused on industrial additive manufacturing technology. Researchers at RCAM collaborate with industry partners to enhance their comparative advantage and increase their global competitiveness using additive manufacturing technologies. The center’s additive manufacturing expertise in design, materials, modeling and laser technologies enables its engineers to support manufacturing across a range of industry sectors including aerospace, biomedical, automotive, mining, and energy.

Through the RMIT University Advanced Manufacturing Precinct, the RCAM research teams have access to the latest in metal and polymer additive manufacturing systems, as well as subtractive technologies Additionally, researchers have access to RMIT’s Microscopy and Microanalysis Facility (RMMF) and Micro Nano Research Facility (MNRF) for detailed material characterization and analysis.

The AconityMIDI+, a modular system from Aconity3D developed specifically to facilitate experimentation and research, is expected to extend the Group’s knowledge and understanding of L-PBF systems through Aconity’s process monitoring capability. This will allow the researchers to further delve into materials development with a preheated bed of up to 1000°C, and an Aerosint multi-material module.

The Arcemy unit from AML3D opens a new research area for in large format wire arc additive manufacturing. The RCAM team will be leveraging deep knowledge and experience in robotics, directed energy deposition technology and materials processing to deliver immediate benefit to the industry in large-scale AM.

RCAM will be hosting a digital launch event on Thursday, 2nd of December at 8 am AEST to further discuss these systems and their industrial use cases.
