# River Luminaire, lighting made using Haddy’s LFAM

Montreal-based lighting company Eureka, a part of the Acuity Brands Lighting portfolio, has released a new series of light fixtures. Called River Luminaire, the series continues the company's tradition of producing best-in-class decorative luminaires, however introduces something new to the mix: large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM).

What each of these different styles has in common is the use of a 3D printed body made using robotic LFAM technology from Florida-based[ Haddy](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/haddy/). The 3D printed bodies are constructed from a transparent polymer material and emphasize the layered texture characteristic of the 3D printing process. In fact, this texture is central to the River Luminaires design and function, creating a play between light and shadow when the LED bulb encased within is lit.

The light fixtures are also modular, giving customers the choice between a pendant mounting or a surface mounting. The former uses aircraft cables to suspend the luminaires and give them the appearance of floating in space. Opting for surface mounting has a completely different effect that results in an ambient glow. Customers can also choose from a variety of different colors for the metal brackets to ensure that the versatile light fixture matches the aesthetic of a space. Eureka suggests that the fixtures are ideal for a variety of environments, including food courts, shared amenity spaces, boardrooms, or office receptions.

The 3D printed lighting production was carried out in collaboration with Haddy, which[ operates a microfactory in its hometown of St. Petersburg](https://www.voxelmatters.com/haddy-opens-worlds-largest-3d-printing-factory/), Florida powered by CEAD's Flexbot LFAM systems. This AI-powered robotic 3D printer, which has integrated milling, is itself a versatile solution with applications in defense, maritime, tooling, entertainment, and interior decor. For instance, Haddy has several projects under its belt, including with[ maritime company Blue Ops](https://www.voxelmatters.com/red-cat-blue-ops-integrates-robotic-3d-printing-through-haddy-partnership/) for the production of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs); with[ Disney for the production of theme park props](https://www.voxelmatters.com/disney-jungle-cruise-ride-3d-printed-boat-prop/); and with[ Walmart to release a line of 3D printed vases](https://www.instagram.com/p/DUk_H9pjBKJ/).

In Eureka's case, LFAM offered a number of benefits, including the production of unique and complex geometries and rapid development cycles. "Working with Acuity Brands and now featured by Eureka Lighting, these fixtures represent an important milestone for Haddy’s lighting segment and demonstrate how large-format additive manufacturing is creating new opportunities within the lighting industry," the 3D printing company said.

Last year, the company launched Lattice, a series of pendant lamps with 3D printed metal lattice shades. These monolithic shades, made on-demand, are printed from aluminum and are available in three styles: sphere, cone, or cylinder.
