Rambam Health Care Campus in Israel establishes digital implant center with EOS, PTC

Metal 3D printing and CAD tools combine to support point-of-care implant production

Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, Israel, partnered with EOS and PTC to open a Digital Implant Engineering Center, bringing together engineers and physicians to design and produce customized patient implants and devices using metal 3D printing.

“Personalized medicine is already the foundation of modern healthcare across many clinical disciplines. Now, Rambam Health Care Campus is setting a new benchmark in personalized medicine for medical devices and implants through its dedicated in-house Digital Implant Engineering Center,” said Dr. Michal Mekel, Director General of Rambam Health Care Campus.

Rambam is a 1,100-bed academic hospital serving over 2.7 million residents of northern Israel and operates as northern Israel’s only tertiary medical center. It is also the country’s most experienced trauma facility and hosts one of Israel’s largest pediatric and adult oncology centers, where implant use has grown steadily. The hospital serves the IDF Northern Command, UN peacekeeping forces, and the U.S. Sixth Fleet, in addition to its regional patient base.

“Point-of-care innovation in healthcare depends on integrating advanced industrial-grade additive manufacturing with validated hospital workflows. Our open software structure enables such scan-to-print workflows,” said Nikolai Zaepernick, Chief Strategy Officer at EOS.

Dr. Ronen Ben-Horin, Vice President of Technology at PTC, described the center as a way to connect clinical need, design, manufacturability, and workflow discipline in one system.

The center pairs Rambam’s clinical expertise with EOS’s industrial 3D printing systems and PTC’s Creo computer-aided design software, aiming to combine design, validation, manufacturing, and quality control within a single workflow at the point of care. Producing implants on-site cuts down on external suppliers, shortens the path between surgeons and developers, and speeds up treatment timelines, according to the partners.
