Precision ADM, Inc., a manufacturing solutions company based in Winnipeg, Canada, has successfully completed Titanium AM process validation for its in-house M290 3D printers from EOS. The “Validation Master Plan,” coordinated in partnership with EOS GmbH Additive Minds experts, covers Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ) and baseline Performance Qualification (PQ).

In accompaniment of the validation results, Precision ADM has also published a new white paper entitled “The Importance of Process Validation in Additive Manufacturing.” As the title suggests, the paper outlines the importance of implementing a validation process for additive manufacturing, as well as details the specific validation process it employed. According to the Canadian company, the paper also addresses the challenges that come with the validation process.

Anyone working within the additive manufacturing industry will know the importance of validation—at many levels. Validating a particular process, hardware and materials is crucial if manufacturers want to ensure a reliable and repeatable process. In industries like medical and aerospace especially, validating a process and ensuring a 3D printed part meets industry standards and requirements is massively important.

As Precision ADM succinctly writes: “Without a fully defined and properly data-driven validation system, an AM service provider cannot be sure that their end product is consistent.”

Precision ADM offers a range of manufacturing services, including additive manufacturing. With a focus on metal AM, the company operates a small fleet of professional machines including an EOS M400-4 and four EOS M290s. The EOS M290, the machine validated by Precision ADM, is a DMLS system suitable for producing highly complex metal components.

“We recognize the importance of applying quality metrics to the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) process. EOS Additive Minds and their great expertise helped us to overcome the challenges of validation in AM,” said Martin Petrak, CEO of Precision ADM. “Together we analyzed the potential risks and we have invested in designing and completing a robust end-to-end validation of our metal additive process, so that we can assure our customers of reliable, repeatable manufacturing results.”

“Precision ADM now has the production capabilities and the documentation in place so that a medical or aerospace customer can focus on their final part, having confidence that they will get high-quality parts that fulfill all current industry regulations,” added Michael Kowal, Application Development Consultant for EOS Additive Minds.
