Plasmics launches campaign for INo Trident induction-heated nozzle

Plasmics, an Austrian startup specializing in developing cutting-edge 3D printing solutions, launched a crowdfunding campaign to unveil its new product – the Plasmics INo Trident. The first commercially available induction-heated nozzle for a 3D printer.

“Along with the nozzle, the hotend is the part of the 3D printer with the highest impact on printing quality. Conventional resist-heated nozzles often do not maintain a constant temperature during extrusion because of the slow heat transfer. This, in turn, leads to speed limitations and oozing. That’s why we developed the Plasmics INo Trident – to be able to solve all these issues,” says Konrad Schreiner, CEO of Plasmics.

Instead of using conventional resistance heating cartridges, Plasmics uses a modulated magnetic field to convert energy into heat, similar to induction stoves or wireless chargers. This results in the INo Trident being able to heat up and cool down much faster than a conventional nozzle. Another advantage of the INo Trident is its lower mass, which results in fluctuations in temperature getting propagated through the system faster, which shortens the reaction time. In turn, this yields a more consistent extrusion providing significantly improved print quality. All of these features are especially valuable in multi-material printing or when using temperature-dependent filaments such as Varioshore. Overall, INo Trident is not only the first induction nozzle compatible with standard 3D printers but also the first part of a holistic printing solution that ushers in the next step in extrusion 3D printing.

More information about INo Trident, including measurement data and news about product updates, is available through the Kickstarter campaign, which runs through October 23. So far, the campaign has raised 89% of its goal and is still welcoming pledges.

In exchange for participating, backers can get a variety of rewards, including a full Plasmics INo Trident Hotend Set at a discounted early bird price of €319, compared to an MSRP of €479. Buyers can also pledge €419 for a special INo Trident Carbon Black Edition with a black anodized outer shell and a red anodized cooler. Delivery of the packaged and assembled INo Tridents is planned for the end of March 2023 at the latest.

Plasmics singular focus is developing the world’s most sophisticated and easy-to-use 3D printing solution and the INo Trident is the first publicly available piece of Plasmics’ vision.
