Phillips Corporation to provide additive manufacturing expertise to US Army

Phillips Corporation, Federal Division, a leading service provider and distributor of machines and ancillary equipment to the United States Federal Government, has executed a Public Private Partnership Agreement (“P3”) to support the Army Center of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing (“CoE”) at the Rock Island Arsenal-Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center.

The P3 calls for Phillips to be embedded in the CoE facility in Rock Island, Illinois. Phillips Federal Applications Engineers will collaborate with their Army counterparts to exploit the potential of additive manufacturing in developing solutions to meet the Army’s current and future supply chain challenges. Comprising 946 acres, the Rock Island Arsenal is located on Arsenal Island, originally known as Rock Island, on the Mississippi River.

At the ribbon-cutting for the Rock Island Arsenal CoE, Maj. General Daniel Mitchell, commanding general U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command stated: “I would have never dreamed that we would be able to print out parts. Advanced manufacturing technology holds the promise of greatly increased Army readiness rates so that we will be ready to spring into action whenever and wherever our nation calls upon us”.

Phillips Corporation For over 50 years, Phillips has served the DoD with manufacturing technology products and expertise. The Maryland company has exclusive partnerships with Haas Automation, EOS, Spee3d, Sodick, Spectrum Group, and other industry leaders to provide additive and subtractive support to the Federal Government.

While AM is viewed as a critical tool to address readiness by senior leaders in the DoD, there are several challenges such as adequate training for engineers and funding options for significant capital investments in rapidly changing technology. As a critical provider of additive manufacturing machines, equipment, materials, processes, and maintenance, Phillips Federal provides solutions to these challenges with flexible training courses from certified AM experts, consulting opportunities, and unique funding options to fit every facility.
