Phase3D, a company specializing in real-time, in-situ inspection for additive manufacturing, has released the Fringe Inspection M2 Series 5 Kit, bringing its trusted, measurement-based quality assurance technology to the widely deployed GE Additive (Colibrium Additive) M2 Series 5 metal AM platform.

“The M2 Series 5 is a workhorse of metal additive manufacturing, and with this release, we’re giving operators the ability to see and measure every layer in real time,” said Niall O’Dowd, Founder and CEO of Phase3D. “The ASTRO America Challenge, a national competition to advance in-situ monitoring for AM, gives us the opportunity to demonstrate that unit-based, actionable inspection can make AM more reliable, scalable, and cost-effective.”

Qualification remains one of the largest barriers to scaling additive manufacturing in the United States, especially for aerospace, defense, and other sectors where part failure is not an option. US manufacturers are under pressure to move beyond one-off prototyping and deliver certified, repeatable production at scale. In this environment, in-situ process monitoring is becoming essential to meet quality standards without slowing production. Fringe Inspection addresses this challenge head-on by delivering objective, unit-based measurement data for every layer, ensuring that qualification can be achieved with greater speed, accuracy, and confidence.

The Fringe Inspection M2 Series 5 Kit connects seamlessly to GE Additive (Colibrium Additive) M2 Series 5 systems. It can be installed and calibrated in less than 24 hours and is designed for fully reversible integration, restoring the printer to its original configuration if required.

Like the recently launched Fringe Inspection 500Q Kit, this solution enables manufacturers to detect process deviations before they become costly defects, ensure process stability across builds and machines, and create a permanent, traceable build record for qualification and audits.

This product builds on Phase3D’s participation in the ASTRO America In-Situ Monitoring Challenge, where the company demonstrated how to capture key data, including time-lapse imagery and performance logs, to validate the technology in a true production environment. This opportunity allowed Phase3D to support the broader industry goal of achieving scalable, reliable, and cost-effective AM.
