OTHR Presents Cloth, a Porcelain 3D Printed “Oliera” by Luca Nichetto

The latest OTHR item proving yet again that 3D printing can be used to make limited series of high end design products is Cloth, a streamlined, multi-use form. Acts as oil jug, creamer or soy sauce dispenser. It is a numbered edition, in 3D printed porcelain, available with or without lid for $285.

The concept for Cloth began with the idea of fusing an oil jug’s spout with its body. Only possible through 3D printing, its shape creates a seamless connection between spout and container. The form acts as a porcelain cloth, draped around the liquid it dispenses. This stoic object is animated through its angles and lines, which impart a sense of constant motion. The oil jug, known as “oliera” in Italian, is a very common item for the table in Italy, as several dishes are dressed with extra virgin olive oil after they have been served.

Cloth’s creator, Italian designer Luca Nichetto, began his career as a Murano-based glass maker for major glassware brand Salviati. He started drawing sketches as a young university student, looking to make extra money one summer. While the producers at Salviati thought his designs were fantastic, they wouldn’t produce any until Nichetto promised to learn more about the company and business of design.
