OPPO Find N5 features titanium 3D printed hinges for maximum thinness
Beating out competition be a razor thin margin
The new OPPO Find N5 is set to redefine the foldable smartphone landscape with its cutting-edge 3D printed titanium alloy Flexion hinge. Competing head-to-head with devices like the Honor Magic V3 (and V2), OPPO’s latest innovation focuses on extreme thinness, durability, and an enhanced user experience.
BLT provided the 3D printing capabilities to overcome the hinge technology bottleneck, ensuring better durability, strength, and a thinner, lighter design. Using aerospace-grade titanium alloy with 3D printing allowed BLT to reduce component thickness from 0.3mm to just 0.15mm, improving hinge rigidity by 36%, strength by 120%, and impact resistance by 100%.
OPPO has engineered the Find N5 as one of the slimmest foldable smartphones. When folded, the device is exceptionally thin, making it highly portable and convenient for one-handed use. To achieve this, OPPO combines the 3D printed titanium alloy for the hinge with a 7000-series aluminum alloy frame for structural integrity and carbon fiber components to reduce weight while maintaining durability.
Compared to the Honor Magic V2, which boasts a 9.9 mm folded thickness and was the first mobile phone to feature 3D printed hinges, the OPPO Find N5 aims to achieve even slimmer dimensions, with 8.93 mm folded thickness while ensuring hinge reliability and durability. The OPPO Find N5 also beats the Honor Magic V3, which is 9.2 mm thick when folded.
The OPPO Find N5 features an advanced dual-display setup. The main display is an 8.12-inch LTPO OLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, offering a fluid and vibrant viewing experience. The cover display measures 6.62 inches with OLED technology, ensuring high brightness levels for optimal outdoor readability.
To enhance the foldable experience, OPPO has implemented TÜV Rheinland-certified minimized crease technology, ensuring a near-seamless screen with improved longevity. The 3D printed titanium alloy Flexion hinge design significantly reduces weight by 62% compared to traditional steel or aluminum hinges.
Additionally, OPPO has minimized the number of hinge components from 92 to just 4, enhancing overall durability and reliability. Including ultra-high-strength 2200 MPa steel reinforcement ensures that the hinge withstands repeated folding and unfolding without degradation in performance.
The OPPO Find N5 is expected to launch in China first, followed by a global rollout in select markets. Depending on the chosen configuration, pricing is anticipated to range between $1,499 and $1,799. Given its advanced technology, premium materials, and cutting-edge design, the device is expected to position itself as a strong competitor in the foldable smartphone segment.
