# This off-road logistics robot is fully 3D printed

A few months ago, we covered a story about a [sustainable camper van](https://www.voxelmatters.com/ukrainian-startup-3d-prints-camper-van-from-7400-recycled-bottles/) that was 3D printed by Ukrainian startup Lemki Robotix and German 3D printing company iSCALE 3D. Now, the partners have teamed up once again to create a fully 3D printed off-road robot. This robotic vehicle, also made in partnership with Czech Republic-based Zeykan Robotics, is made 100% from recycled materials.

The robot falls into the category of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and could be used for logistics in the context of defense. Other applications for the innovative autonomous robot include search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, precision agriculture and delivery to remote or hazardous regions, since it can cover difficult terrain and is equipped with a sophisticated navigation system.

The off-road robot, reportedly the first of its kind, consists almost entirely of 3D printed components, from the hermetically sealed body of the vehicle (printed from recycled PP reinforced with fiberglass reinforcement) to the wheels (made from recycled PU). Even the rims of the wheels are 3D printed from a carbon-fiber-reinforced PA.

The wheels themselves are of particular note: they are based on an airless design that integrates hollows for increased buoyancy, enabling them to navigate off-road terrain as well as water crossings (in this case, the 3D printed tires function as paddle wheels). The airless tire design also comes with other benefits, like less maintenance, load resilience and above all no flats or punctures.

They increase platform survivability, reduce operating costs and unlock true off-road autonomy."

In addition to its 3D printed structure and wheels, the autonomous robot is equipped with all the technologies that make it autonomous, including 360-degree cameras, LiDAR and Starlink satellite connectivity. The vehicle can also be controlled manually using an onboard neural network and can reportedly function even in non-GPS regions.

Lemki and its partners recently unveiled the off-road vehicle at the 3D Print expo in Lyon, France. While functional, the robot is a proof-of-concept, built to showcase what large-format 3D printing can do for mobility and logistics applications. Lemki's aim is that one day, the off-roader will be manufactured all over the world using a decentralized production model to enable autonomous logistics while minimizing the ecological impact.
