# ÖBB-Technische Services signs with 3D Spark to scale AM spare parts management

ÖBB-Technical-Service GmbH has entered a two-year enterprise agreement with [3D Spark](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/3d-spark/), transitioning the previous collaboration to a long-term partnership. It aims to deepen the integration of 3D Spark into ÖBB’s digital warehouse for enhanced spare parts management as well as improving ÖBB’s procurement workflows for 3D printed parts.

The extended partnership follows ÖBB’s successful deployment of 3D Spark’s software for automated Make or Buy decisions of AM parts, auto-quoting, live price indications from AM suppliers, and large-scale spare part screenings. As highlighted in the recent case study, ÖBB has achieved substantial gains in operational efficiency and cost savings.

Ruben Meuth, CEO and Founder of 3D Spark, commented that ÖBB’s continued confidence is a strong affirmation of the value the company delivers. He noted that by merging detailed manufacturability analysis and accurate cost estimation with real-time supplier pricing, the platform enhances efficiency in decision-making and strengthens the resilience of rail supply chains.

The decision to extend the partnership follows the successful use of 3D Spark’s software by ÖBB. The software enabled automated "Make or Buy" decisions, generated instant supplier quotes, provided live pricing, and supported large-scale screening of spare parts. A recent case study highlighted how ÖBB achieved notable operational efficiency improvements and significant cost savings by utilizing the platform.

Under the terms of the new agreement, 3D Spark will introduce rail-specific AI models capable of analyzing 2D technical drawings. It will also be fully integrated into ÖBB’s Digital Warehouse and SAP systems, enabling greater automation and supporting data-driven decisions across the supply chain.

This partnership strengthens 3D Spark’s position as a leading digital manufacturing ecosystem for the rail industry. The platform is already trusted by major operators and original equipment manufacturers such as Deutsche Bahn, Alstom, Siemens Mobility, and now further by ÖBB.

Patrick Klein, Application Engineer at ÖBB, emphasized that 3D Spark’s combination of technical proficiency and deep industry insight has made them a reliable partner. He expressed confidence that the long-term agreement will support ÖBB’s vision for the future of spare parts and procurement strategies.

In 2023 alone, ÖBB transported 494 million passengers and over 78 million tonnes of freight, all powered by renewable energy sources. With annual infrastructure investments exceeding EUR 4.5 billion, ÖBB employs nearly 45,000 staff across bus and rail operations, supported by 2,000 apprentices, ensuring that around 1.4 million passengers and more than 1,000 freight trains reach their destinations safely every day.
