Norsk Titanium qualifies component for US DoD application

Structural flight components produced by Norsk Titanium (Euronext: NTI, OTCQX: NORSF), a global leader in additive manufacturing for aerospace-grade structural titanium components using its patented Rapid Plasma Deposition (RPD) technology, in collaboration with Northrop Grumman, have been qualified for Department of Defense (DoD) hardware.

Norsk Titanium successfully printed a qualified near-net-shape preform for the subsequently finished component, dramatically reducing raw material lead times and allowing for significantly fewer machining hours to produce the final part. Two structural titanium components are expected to undergo the first flight in the second quarter of 2024.

It is a critical demonstration of our RPD® material performance and our ability to rapidly print parts for use in defense applications,” said Nicholas Mayer, Norsk Vice President of Commercial. “The defense sector is one of our strategic growth areas, and this demonstration builds confidence among customers evaluating our process to displace legacy subtractive methods,” added Mayer.

Norsk was approved as an additive manufacturing special processor for Northrop Grumman in April 2023. Norsk Titanium US was added to Northrop Grumman’s approved special processor listings (ASPL) for the production of wire-fed rapid plasma deposition of titanium.

As part of an ongoing development effort, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) began evaluating the application of Norsk Titanium’s RPD technology for aircraft componentry for NGAS US Department of Defense (DoD) applications.

Over the past year, Norsk Titanium continued maturing its RPD technology for DoD applications and configured its operations at the Plattsburgh Defense and Qualification Center (PDQC) to handle efforts controlled under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
