# Nordic countries form joint additive manufacturing alliance

Four Nordic countries have formed the Nordic Additive Manufacturing Alliance (NAMA), a cross-border initiative backed by [Nordic Innovation](https://www.voxelmatters.com/amexci-makes-noteworthy-investment-into-nordic-am/) that brings together leading AM organizations from Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

The nations will coordinate production capacity, share expertise, and address growing vulnerabilities in regional supply chains, and the alliance will initially run from 2026 to 2028. [It is being led by DIMECC Ltd of Finland](https://www.voxelmatters.com/fame-brings-together-finnish-am-companies-to-leverage-synergies/), with [participation from FAME (Finnish Additive Manufacturing Ecosystem)](https://www.voxelmatters.com/fame-brings-together-finnish-am-companies-to-leverage-synergies/), [RISE Research Institutes of Sweden](https://www.voxelmatters.com/rises-am-center-granted-1-million-in-new-funding/), [Norwegian Additive Manufacturing Cluster](https://www.voxelmatters.com/gkn-aerospace-expands-additive-manufacturing-capabilities-in-norway/), and [Danish AM Hub](https://www.voxelmatters.com/danish-startup-perfi-develops-volumetric-3d-printing-tech/).

Funded under Nordic Innovation's Nordic Forward program, NAMA's work will span ecosystem mapping, industrial needs assessment, governance development, and the construction of a long-term roadmap for Nordic cooperation.

The initiative responds directly to what organizers described as a fragmented regional AM landscape, where knowledge, production capacity, and investment have not been systematically shared across borders. Recent disruptions — including the COVID-19 crisis, which tested the ability to rapidly produce critical components — exposed the risks of relying on global supply chains or isolated national solutions, particularly in sectors such as defense, energy, healthcare, and industrial infrastructure.

## Complementary national strengths

Sweden leads in materials and metal powder production, Finland in industrial implementation and digital design, Denmark in circular business models and innovation, and Norway in maritime and energy sector applications. NAMA will now aim to combine these into a coordinated cross-border effort that no single country could replicate independently.

“Through the Nordic AM Alliance, we are strengthening the Nordic region's long-term competitiveness and resilience,” said Sindre Stemshaug Bornstein, Managing Director of Nordic Innovation.

“Additive manufacturing is a critical technology for sustainability, digitalization and innovation, with each Nordic country holding complementary strengths. By bringing these strengths together, we can speed up the green transition and enhance industrial resilience across borders.”

Beyond the immediate three-year project scope, NAMA is designed to become a permanent organization. The alliance intends to act as a unified Nordic voice in discussions with European policymakers and industry bodies, positioning the region as a frontrunner in AM adoption and application.
