Nikon SLM Solutions commenced production for the NXG XII 600 metal additive manufacturing system in the United States. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities and enhancing service for the North American customer base with “American Made” systems.

Charlie Grace, CCO at Nikon SLM Solutions and President of Nikon SLM Solutions NA, commented on this strategic expansion: “Establishing the production of the NXG XII 600 in the United States, allows us to better support our North American customers by providing them with locally produced, high-quality additive manufacturing systems. Our commitment to innovation and excellence is reflected in this expansion, and we are excited about the opportunities it brings to our industry.”

Until today, the only fully American-made metal 3D printers were those from Velo3D, considering that even US company 3D Systems manufactures its metal 3D printers (which derived from the acquisition of French company Phenix) in France and – via the partnership with GF – in Switzerland. However, the use of metal PBF technologies for key aerospace and defense applications, demands that the US can rely on US-based machines. The fact that Nikon SLM Solutions is a Japanese-owned company originating in Germany, which are both staunch US allies, adds solidity to the deal.

The production of these systems, located at a facility in South Carolina, will enhance Nikon SLM Solutions’ ability to meet the growing demand for advanced metal additive manufacturing solutions across key industries, including aerospace, defense, automotive, and energy. By localizing production of these systems in the US, Nikon SLM Solutions demonstrates its dedication to providing reliable, cost-efficient, and flexible systems tailored to the specific needs of our customers.

The NXG XII 600, renowned for its high productivity, reliability, and advanced features, is set to revolutionize manufacturing processes with performance and efficiency. By localizing the supply of these systems, Nikon SLM Solutions aims to deliver faster lead times, enhanced customer support, and a strengthened presence in the U.S. market.

The U.S. operations will adhere to the following acts and regulations, ensuring compliance and quality assurance:

  • Buy American Act (“BAA”), 48 C.F.R. § 52.225-2(a)
  • Department of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (“DFARS”), DFARS §§ 225.872-1(a), 225.003
  • Trade Agreements Act (“the TAA”), 48 C.F.R. § 52.225-5(a)

Consequently, NXG XII 600 products are BAA-compliant domestic end products, meet the DFARS requirements for DOD-related sales, and are also TAA-compliant U.S.-made end products.
