Nikon SLM Solutions inaugurates new office in Italy

Nikon SLM Solutions inaugurated its now location at the Reggiane Innovation Park in Reggio Emilia last March 20th. For the Emilia Romagna region, this is a great example of collaboration between business, institutions and local actors that led to the establishment of a new foreign company in the strategic metal additive manufacturing sector.

Nikon SLM Solutions is part of the larger Japanese group Nikon, which acquired it in 2022, and is one of the leading global manufacturers of additive manufacturing machines, in particular the production of 3D printers specialized in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) of metallic materials in powder form, suitable for use in industrial processes for various sectors, including automotive.

The Reggio Emilia office will focus on the design phase, hosting 30 engineers and dealing with the development of new products and innovative design methodologies and processes. The center’s expertise will include mechanical, process and industrialization designers, electrical and electronic designers and software developers. The building that will house Nikon SLM is the iconic Shed 15C.

In addition to the executives of Nikon SLM Solution, the inauguration was attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Reggiane Parco Innovazione, Fondazione REI, Unindustria Reggio Emilia, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Invest in Emilia-Romagna (the contact point for foreign investments managed by ART-ER on behalf of the Emilia-Romagna Region). All these actors have cooperated – along with the territorial context of excellence – helping to ensure the landing of the investment on the regional territory.

Inaugurated last March 16th and 17h, Shed 15C is a new development by Reggiane Parco Innovazione and the location of the IV University Hub of Unimore in Reggio Emilia. That event saw the participation of Reggio Emilia’s Mayor Luca Vecchi, the Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia Carlo Adolfo Porro, the President of Unindustria Reggio Emilia Roberta Anceschi, and the CEO of Stu Reggiane spa Luca Torri.

The opening remarks were be delivered by Professor Romano Prodi, former professor of Economics and Industrial Policy at the University of Bologna, as well as former Prime Minister of Italy and President of the European Commission.
