Nikon SLM Solutions enters collaboration with ATI and BPMI
ATI has purchased the NXG 600E to address the challenges of both US Navy propulsion and hypersonic weapon production
Nikon SLM Solutions, a metal AM technology company, has entered a collaboration with ATI (Allegheny Technologies Incorporated) and Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI), marking a significant leap in hypersonic and naval propulsion development.
ATI has purchased the NXG 600E, a production system chosen specifically to address the unique challenges of both US Navy propulsion and hypersonic weapon production. This collaboration aims to unlock new frontiers in defense capabilities, with a strategic focus on leveraging the NXG 600E’s 1.5m Z height. ATI, a producer of high-performance materials and solutions, has a rich history of pioneering advancements in aerospace, defense, and beyond.
ATI’s planned use of Inconel 625 in the NXG 600E is based on the material’s critical role in hypersonic, naval propulsion, and industrial applications, allowing ATI to serve the Navy as well as other US Department of Defense programs of emerging, critical need. The NXG 600E’s delivery to ATI in June marks a significant expansion of their metal additive capabilities, building on the experience with their current SLM125, and their understanding of how to capitalize on Nikon SLM’s open machine architecture and parameter development capabilities.
