New RP Platform System Brings AM Closer to Full Traceability

RP Platform, the London-based company providing AM automation software, has released its new file versioning system that allows AM departments to achieve full traceability in their operations and better coordinate their project workflows.

A key bottleneck for companies seeking to implement additive manufacturing solutions is the lack of traceability in the process — for example, when changes are made to STL files. RP Platform’s file versioning system plugs this gap by allowing AM teams across industries to track all changes made to their CAD models and share updates with team members. Full traceability is achieved as new file versions are automatically logged and stored as soon as they are uploaded to the platform, with the software automatically repairing and converting files before they are sent to production. The production process is coordinated by the company’s complete production management system. And
as users will no longer have to manually rename files or maintain duplicates of the same files, there is also a huge time-saving benefit.

“We’re really excited about what our file versioning system means for AM going forward,” says Keyvan Karimi, CEO of RP Platform.

“In the past, it has been incredibly challenging for companies to keep track of their their AM projects, particularly when STL files undergo numerous iterations. Our file versioning system eliminates this problem, and goes one step further towards a fully traceable AM production process. Being able to see exactly what changes have been made in the pre-production stage — and when — adds a whole new level of process quality for AM, which is vital for industries such as automotive or aerospace.”

The file versioning system not only allows users to track changes to STL files, but also automatic file
conversion and repair, alongside a full visualisation of file errors.

File versioning brings us one step closer to achieving a seamless AM production process, and we’re currently developing new features that will further enhance traceability and take industrial additive manufacturing to the next level.”
