MakerBot Educators Guidebook and Cloud Platform to Provide Tools for Teachers

Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.

Building on its legacy of offering the industry’s most complete 3D printing solutions for educators, MakerBot introduced the new cloud-based platform My MakerBot and the new MakerBot Educators Guidebook. These new offerings will substantially improve student access to 3D printing, make it easier for teachers to implement in their classrooms, and make it simpler than ever to go from a lesson plan to a 3D print.

My MakerBot

The new My MakerBot is a Chromebook-compatible, in-browser platform that connects your networked 3D printers, Thingiverse account, orders and support cases all in one place. It gives users the ability to upload and prepare files, print, then monitor their progress from any device, anywhere. The new platform broadens student access to 3D printers in Chromebook classrooms and makes it easier for educators to manage their use.

In addition to offering broader access and simpler use, we collaborated with Autodesk Tinkercad to connect the popular K-12 design software directly to My MakerBot. Students will be able to 3D design in Tinkercad then export designs to My MakerBot and 3D print them without ever leaving their web browsers. By connecting two powerful STEM learning tools, we’re empowering educators so that they can equip students with critical problem solving skills.

MakerBot Educators Guidebook

Educators need more than just 3D printers and seamless software, they need support getting started and teacher-tested lesson plans. The MakerBot Educators Guidebookdirectly addresses those needs and adds to MakerBot’s expansive resources for classrooms, including Thingiverse Education, the largest 3D printing curriculum library and community, and the new My MakerBot platform.

Featuring a crash course in 3D design and printing, as well as nine classroom-ready 3D printing lesson plans, the new MakerBot Educators Guidebook is the definitive how-to on 3D printing in the classroom. We wrote the guidebook in collaboration with over eighty MakerBot Educators, all dedicated leaders in STEM education, in order to deliver the ultimate resource for learning the basics, best practices, and for finding high quality lesson plans.
Go from design in Tinkercad to printing with My MakerBot.

All of the projects available in the guidebook feature step-by-step instructions, the core standards they fulfill, and notes from the authors to guide teachers from start to finish. The nine projects offered are only a small sampling of the lesson plans currently available on Thingiverse Education. With almost 300 lesson plans and with over 14,000 downloaded last month, it’s the largest online portal for educators to find 3D printing content for their classrooms.

3D printers aren’t the center of classrooms, students are. That’s why MakerBot is always working to set new standards in ease-of-use and reliability while connecting teachers to high quality curriculum and the largest community of 3D printing educators. My MakerBot and the MakerBot Educators Guidebook will be widely available by the start of the 2017 school year.
