Eplus3D, a leading Chinese leading manufacturer of polymer and metal 3D printers, launched the new metal additive manufacturing system EP-M450H, featuring the tallest build chamber in metal L-PBF technology.

With a build chamber measuring 455 x 455 x 1100 mm, the new EP-M450H is not the largest metal machine in Eplus3D’s line up (that would be the EP-M650, with a 655 x 655 x 800 mm build volume) but it is the tallest, with the ability to build parts over 1 meter tall and a total build volume of 200 liters.

The EP-M450H can has been qualified for several different metal powders, including titanium alloys, aluminum alloys, nickel alloys, maraging steel, stainless steel, cobalt chrome, and copper alloys, etc. It is targeted at direct manufacturing of large-size, high-precision and high-performance parts in the aerospace, aviation, automotive and defense industry.

Offering an open material system, like all Eplus3D 3D printers, the EP-M450 features an optimized gas flow design to ensure efficient removal of smoke and splashes for uniform and consistent full-size printing. Eplus3D’s dynamic software allows engineers to divide the model into different sections (i.e. upper and lower surfaces, core areas and small areas etc). Different process parameters can be applied individually to these parts for higher printed part quality. Eplus3D states that the repeatable positional accuracy along the Z-axis is ≤±5 μm.

The machine features an optional dual laser system with two 500 W fiber lasers to increase printing efficiency by 70%. However other methods can also be used to accelerate the time of print on such a large volume: printing is possible with increased layer thickness and the in-house developed EP-Hatch processing software helps to implement optimized scanning strategies leading to shorter print duration. All in all the maximum building rate is 55 cm3/h. The process software can also be integrated with Siemens NX software to achieve more effective design, simulation and printing path planning, further improving the production efficiency.
