# Nanochon targeting $20m Series A funding round after strong start to 2026

[Nanochon, an orthopedic device company](https://www.3dprintingbusiness.directory/company/nanochon/) developing an implant for treating articular cartilage defects in the knee, is planning a $20 million Series A funding round in Q3 of 2026, to build on the $11.3m of funding it has received to date.

The Washington DC-based company started the year with an oversubscribed $4.1m Seed Prime II fund round, led by Ecphora Capital and cultivate(MD), and which will help take the business through its first in-human study in Canada. In addition, the funding will also enable additional R&D on its surgical instrument toolset, as well as the initiation of what the company says will be “a pivotal study” at the start of 2027.

The projected $20m round will support a North American RCT, and set the company up for an intended FDA approval. Nanochon is currently developing Chondrograft, a patented [3D printed implant designed to treat articular cartilage defects in the knee](https://www.voxelmatters.com/five-use-cases-that-show-the-life-changing-impact-of-medical-3d-printing/).

Nanochon's phase I trial in Canada was set to begin within weeks of the final seed funding close. The prospective study will enroll 10 patients to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Chondrograft for [knee cartilage restoration](https://www.voxelmatters.com/bico-and-nanochon-to-develop-3d-printed-joint-restoration-implant/). Eligible participants include adults aged 22 to 60 with femoral condyle or trochlea articular cartilage lesions who failed conservative therapy and met additional criteria.

The company also launched a partnership with ProVoyance to develop MRI-based preoperative surgical planning software, positioning Nanochon to address focal cartilage defects with both a device and enabling software.
